What should I know about our Birchwood Member Number?
Please use this number when making dining reservations, court times or signing for any other Club
services/chits. It is also your account number. Members may not use credit cards for any purpose.
Guests may use Visa, MasterCard or Discover for payment in the Racquet Sports Pro Shop, Casual Bar,
Grill Room and Three-Way House. The Three-Way House also accepts member charges or cash.
You will receive a detailed monthly statement before the 10th of each month. Payment is due before the
end of the month in which it is received. Electronic funds direct bill payment is also available. Credit
cards may be used to pay member balances online only. Please contact the Accounting Office at
231-526-2166. The Accounting Office is open Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm.
Who may use the Club under our Membership?
Social Members, their spouses, their children less than 21 years of age, and their guests are limited to the
use of some or all of the Common Properties (tennis, pickleball, dining facilities, fitness center, pool,
walking & cross country trails), as determined annually by the Board of Trustees. Social Members are not
permitted to use any golf-related facilities unless as a guest of a voting member (guest fees apply).
The number of Social Memberships and the annual fee shall also be determined annually by the Board of
Trustees. A Social Membership is an annual, non-assessable, non-voting membership available to
qualified persons who do not own property in Birchwood.
DINING
What dining services are available at the Clubhouse?
Birchwood has two different dining areas. The Grill Room is considered family, casual dining.
Reservations are required by calling 231-526-2166. The Casual Bar is more of a “pub style” dining
experience. However no reservations are taken for the Casual Bar, service is based on a first come basis.
Relaxed dress code is acceptable in both dining areas, including blue denim.
In the peak season the Grill Room & Casual Bar are open Tuesday through Sunday and are closed on
Monday. The Grill Room & Casual Bar offer daily and evening features including wine, beer & cocktail
specials. It’s always safe to call ahead if you unsure about the hours, menu or dress code.

Reservations are required in the Grill Room.
What is the Club’s tipping policy?
A suggested gratuity of 20% is added to the sales check for food & beverage charges. If you wish to give
more or less, that is certainly acceptable. Space is provided on the check if you prefer to write in a dollar
or percentage amount.
FITNESS CENTER
What are the Fitness Center hours?
The Fitness Center is open daily from 6:00am – 10:00pm year round (including holidays). Locker Rooms
are available during the scheduled hours of operation. Lockers are also available for a small fee; please
stop by the Accounting Office for locker assignment and a key.
Who can use the Fitness Center?
The equipment area is accessible by members, renters and guests of each. Children under 15 years of age
must be accompanied by an adult. “Non-house” guests, living within a 50 mile radius of Birchwood, are
limited to three visits per year and must be accompanied by a Member. All members and guests MUST
sign in before each visit.
Towels are supplied. All cardio equipment has personal TV’s that are to be accessed with headphones
only. Headphones and batteries can be purchased in the Accounting Office if needed. Birchwood also
supplies antiseptic wipes that are required to be used on equipment after each use.
Is the Fitness Center staffed?
There is not a trainer on staff. Members are able to use the facility in conjunction with Personal Trainers.
Personal training sessions must be reserved with the Club. A reserved personal training session is only
for the facility, individual equipment cannot be reserved.

RACQUET SPORTS
What is the court time reservation rule?
 Reservations can be made by calling the Racquet Sports Pro Shop at 231-526-2372 and are
required for court use.
 Reservations may be made up to one week in advance. If unable to keep reservations, please
cancel as a courtesy to others.
 All players including members, guests and renters are required to register in the Racquet Sports
Pro Shop prior to any play.
 Children under the age of 8 years must be accompanied by an adult unless engaged in supervised
activity or lessons.
Is there a dress code for tennis courts?
Proper tennis attire is required at all times. No cut-offs, blue denim, or tank tops are allowed.
What are the rules for guest play?
 “Non-house” guests, living within a 50 mile radius of Birchwood, are limited to playing a total of
three times per season and must be accompanied by a member.
 During the period from Memorial Day through Labor Day, a member must accompany each guest
except rental guests or immediate family. Rental and immediate family guest membership cards
are necessary for proper identification.
 All members and guests MUST register in the Tennis Pro Shop prior to using the courts.
Do I need to reserve the pickleball court?
Yes, please contact the Racquet Sports Pro Shop at 231-526-2372 to reserve the court. Equipment will be
available at no charge or you are welcome to bring your own.
POOL
When does the pool open for the season?
The heated large pool and kiddie pool are located outdoors and will open by Memorial Day, weather
permitting and will close after Labor Day, weather permitting
Who may use the pool?
Members, including their immediate family members and guests may use the pool. “Non-house” guests
living within a 50 mile radius of Birchwood are limited to three visits per year and must be accompanied
by a member at all times. All members and guests MUST register in the Racquet Sports Pro Shop prior to
using the pool.
Are towels and locker rooms available?
Limited towels (you are welcome to bring your own) are available for day use at the pool. Men’s and
ladies locker rooms, including showers are also available for use.

Is there a lifeguard on duty?
Lifeguards are on duty daily during the summer months. Children under age 13 must be accompanied by
an adult, over the age of 16, even when a lifeguard is on duty. When no lifeguard is on duty, swim at your
own risk. Please contact the Racquet Sports Pro Shop directly at 231-526-2372 for additional
information, including pool hours of operation.
BIRCHWOOD SECURITY
How large is the Security staff?
There are six experienced, well-trained Security Officers. Birchwood provides 24 hour, 7 days per week
security coverage. The Security direct line is 231-526-2751.
Who do I call for emergencies?
Call 9-1-1.
What happens if I call Security and there is no answer?
Unanswered calls to Security (231-526-2751) automatically page the Security Officer on duty.
GENERAL QUESTIONS
What are the rules for pets?
If walking your pet in the development, they are required to be on a leash and under control at all times.
Domestic animals, except seeing-eye dogs accompanying members and guests are not permitted in the
Clubhouse or the surrounding area.
Does Birchwood have Wi-Fi?
Yes, we have a wireless “hot spot” available that can be accessed on most of the main floor of the
Clubhouse including the Casual Bar.
