The IVI is an international centre of research, training and technical assistance for vaccines needed in
developing countries. The organization’s mission is to “discover, develop, and deliver safe, effective
and affordable vaccines for developing nations.”
Founded under The Establishing Agreement, the IVI was created pursuant to the initiative of the UNDP
under Article 5 of the Vienna Convention of 1969. It is located in Seoul, South Korea, which is the host

The IVI has diverse donors including governments, foundations, public sector institutions and
international organisations, private sector organizations and even individuals.
Core funding to IVI is mainly provided by the governments of the Republic of Korea and Sweden.
Public and private sector organizations and individuals also provide support, both monetary and inkind, for the Institute’s research and programmes. The Korea Support Committee for the IVI (KSC), a
separate non-profit organization in Korea, mobilizes support for IVI from prominent organizations and
individuals in Korea.
