Sports Day Records
In terms of Sports Day records, the outstanding athlete over the life of HGS was Marrion Pearson
who came to the school in 1962. From the information we have, she set 8 final records over three
Sports Days (1964, 1965 and 1966). John Basford, who started at HGS in 1964, and Dave
McKenzie, who started at HGS in 1955, set 4 final records each. John set his records during 1966
when he was a Junior. Dave set his records when he was an Intermediate (1959) and a Senior
(1962). In total 39 pupils set final records on Sports Days. The details are shown in the three
tables below. The fourth table shows performances which were better than the Sports Day
records.
