Name:
Personification is when non-living things are given human characteristics. For
example: “The snowflakes danced as they fell to the ground.” The (snowflakes) are the
non-living things/objects that have been given a human characteristic (danced).
1. Underline all words and phrases that show personification.
a)The car screeched as it came to a halt.
b)The trees whispered in the wind.
c)The flames hissed through the forest.
d)The sun played hide and seek.
e)The bees buzzed around the rose garden.
2. Read the following poem and underline the examples of personification:
Dinnertime
The teapot sang as the water boiled
The ice cubes cackled in their glass
The teacups chattered to one another
While the chairs were passing gas.
The gravy gurgled merrily
As the oil danced in a pan
Oh my dinnertime chorus
What a lovely, lovely clan!
