Competitions and Prizes
Volunteers: It takes about 1,200
Awards and Prizes: $11,200 in cash and
prizes for top finishers in the marathon, half
marathon, and handcycle divisions. Unique
commemorative awards for overall winners and
top three finishers in 5-year age groups. No
double dipping.
Proceeds: The marathon helps support
the Knoxville Track Club’s running and
fitness programs for adults and youth. A
portion of the proceeds benefit Patricia Neal
Rehabilitation Center’s Innovative Recreation
Cooperative (IRC). The IRC encourages
people with disabilities to pursue leisure and
sports activities including handcycling, which
is one of the races in the marathon.
Knoxville Track Club
The Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon is
the premier event produced by the Knoxville
Track Club. A 501(c)(3) non-profit, the KTC
encourages life-long physical well-being
through running and walking. Celebrating its
50th anniversary in 2012, the KTC is among
the top ten largest track and field clubs in the
country.

5K: A range of excellent prizes to top male and

in the 2-person relay and 4-person relay.
Participants in the marathon, half marathon,
and 5K may form teams to compete together in
each respective race. All participants race and
compete individually for their own awards, then
the best three individual times on each team
in each event are
totaled to determine
the winning teams for
that event.

Expo, Swag and Photos
Health and Fitness Expo: Open to the
public, this fun, high-energy expo is the place
to pick up your race packet and visit exhibitor
booths to shop for everything from official
apparel and merchandise to products and
services in fitness, sports, and nutrition. The
Health and Fitness Expo will take place on April
6 (the day before the marathon) in the Knoxville
Convention and Exhibition Center (attached to
the Holiday Inn on Henley St.).

Shirts: Marathon, half marathon, and relay
participants receive a technical shirt (men’s
and women’s sizing). High quality cotton shirts
given to 5K participants, Covenant Kids Run
participants, and to official volunteers.
Great Swag: Get your goody bag when you
pick up your packet at the Health and Fitness
Expo on Saturday, April 6. Goody bags and race
packets will not be mailed and cannot be picked
up on Sunday, April 7.
Race Photos: Official race photographs will
be taken on the course and at the finish line.
Digital proofs may be viewed and purchased
online within a week after the marathon.

What Makes This Marathon
Different?
Races, Locations and Start Times
A first-class running event, challenging course,
magnificent scenery, top-notch sports medicine,
friendly fans and thrilling finish are just a few
of the many reasons why this event stands
out from the crowd. Now in its ninth year, the
Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon is East
Tennessee’s largest road race, drawing more
than 8,000 participants from around the U.S.
and throughout the world.
Knoxville’s multi-faceted race weekend
includes a pre-race Health & Fitness Expo with
more than 50 exhibitors and Kids Fun Run on
Saturday followed by the other races on Sunday.
Plus, the city’s in full bloom for the month-long
Dogwood Arts Festival, which offers musical
entertainment, art exhibits, street fairs and more
than 60 miles of spectacular dogwood trails to
bike or walk.
A highlight of the marathon is the thrilling
finish on the 50-yard line in the University
of Tennessee’s Neyland Stadium, one of the
country’s most impressive collegiate athletic
facilities. Finishers are broadcast live on the
JumboTron, a massive outdoor LED video
board and on television monitors throughout
the stadium. The celebration continues at the
Pilot Flying J Post Race Party, just steps from the
finish line. Fans and runners enjoy refreshments
and music, exciting awards ceremonies, sessions
in stretching, souvenir shopping and more!
2-person, and 4-person relays will be held on
Sunday, April 7 starting at 7:30 a.m. EST. The
marathon handcyclists will start a few minutes
before 7:30 a.m. The 5K starts at 7:45 a.m. The
Covenant Kids Run will be held on Saturday,
April 6 at 6 p.m.
Start Times: The marathon, half marathon,

Marathon: 26.2 miles through scenic Knoxville,
historic neighborhoods, and the UT campus. 18
refreshment stations along the course, serving
water and sports drink, and three gel stations.

2-Person Relay: Same marathon race, but split
between two people completing approximately
13.1 miles each. Minimum age of 12.
4-Person Relay: Same marathon race,
but split between four people completing
approximately 6.5 miles each. Minimum age of 12.
Pacers: Choose from 20 organized pace
groups led by experienced runners for time
increments ranging from 3 hours to 6 hours.
Course Entertainment: Enjoy musical
entertainment throughout the course, including
several cheering “hot spots.” Join the fun and
bring your noise!

in late January 2013. Mail-in entries postmarked
after March 15, 2013 will not be accepted.
After this date, you can continue to register
online until April 1. After April 1, register in person

the attached registration form. Race packets for
all registered participants will be distributed at
