How to change your staff email
and network password
Why change your password?
As it becomes easier to conduct business online, it also becomes easier
for unauthorized personnel including criminals to get access to your
accounts and steal personal and business information. Changing your
complex password frequently helps to prevent this.
If you are physically located on a CAC Campus
with a CAC computer that you are logged in to
1. Press and hold the <Ctrl> and <Alt> keys while pressing the
<Delete> key and then release all keys.
2. Depending on if you are using Windows XP or Windows 7, you
will either see this new window (Figure 1), or the following
information on a blank screen (Figure 2).
Create Strong
Passwords
Length- Make your passwords long,
CAC requires at least 8 characters.
Complexity - Include letters,
punctuation, symbols, and numbers.
CAC requires at least 1 upper case
letter, 1 lower case letter, and 1
number. You can also include
symbols. The greater the variety of
characters in your password, the
better.
Variation- To keep strong
passwords effective, change them
often. CAC requires staff to change
their passwords every 90 days.

3. Click Change Password… (or Change a Password…). A new screen
will pop up that will either look like Figure 3 if you have Windows
XP, or Figure 4 if you have Windows 7.
Variety- Don't use the same
password for everything.
Cybercriminals steal passwords on
websites that have very little
security, and then they use that
same password and user name in
more secure environments, such as
banking websites.

Words spelled backwards, common
misspellings, and abbreviations.
