APPLICATION GUIDANCE INTRODUCTION This guidance sets out the process and requirements that you have to follow when submitting your application to CIWEM. For you to achieve Fellow (FCIWEM, C.WEM) or Chartered Member (MCIWEM, C.WEM) you will complete the CIWEM Professional Application Process. The following flowchart provides an overview of the Professional Application Process: Applicants must submit the following: 1. 2. 3. 4. APPLICATION FORM You should complete the online application form in full and ensure that both you and your sponsors have signed the appropriate sections. 2. CAREER OVERVIEW REPORT (NO MORE THAN 1000 WORDS) CIWEM requires the Career Overview Report you submit to cover the following 6 key areas: duration of employment, job title, employer, roles and responsibilities, your involvement in making key decisions and recommendations, key learning topics*. Your report should give an overview of the work for which you have had responsibility, your job roles and progression through your career, including any career breaks. You need to identify any experiential learning which may be relevant to each registration being sought (i.e. C.WEM/CEng/IEng/EngTech/CSci/CEnv). * A key learning topic is one gained in the workplace as part of your working career and should be highlighted in the text of your report. 3 MANDATORY COMPETENCE ATTAINMENT REPORT (NO MORE THAN 4000 WORDS) You need to provide a response to each of the 14 Mandatory Competences in the pro-forma report available on the CIWEM website. The maximum number of words for the report is 4000; the distribution between individual competences will be at your discretion. Appendices, references and footnotes will not be accepted. You need to use examples from your practical experience to demonstrate the appropriate level of achievement for each competence. Essential images and diagrams should be included to support responses in the pro-forma. Your responses need to be written in the first person and identify your roles and responsibilities, what you have done and what you have learned. If you were part of a team you need to identify what you personally did, describing your contribution to the overall aim of the specific project or piece of work. You normally need to provide two examples that demonstrate the appropriate level of attainment for each Mandatory Competence. The Competence report is your opportunity to demonstrate that you are working at a level appropriate to the registration/s for which you are applying. 2 Final v8 4th July 2012 4 FOR THOSE WHO HAVE PARTICIPATED IN A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SCHEME If you have participated in a CIWEM approved Professional Development scheme, you should provide: Name of Company scheme(s) undertaken with Supporting comment from your mentor A copy of any experience review completed 5 TRAINING AND CPD RECORD You need to provide a list of all training and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) undertaken in the past three years. This should include a brief descriptor, when completed, duration, and organising body. 6 QUALIFICATIONS You need to provide copies of your qualifications, both certificates and transcripts, signed as authentic copy of the original, by at least one of your sponsors. 7 PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIP If you already hold membership of any professional body, you should provide copies of certificates and/or supporting documentation, signed as authentic by at least one of your sponsors. 3 Final v8 4th July 2012
