Catholic Social Teaching Principal 7 - Solidarity
The world’s peoples are interdependent. That means we need each other if we are to
live. We must work together if we are to go on living. And, when we share our lives with
our sisters and brothers around the world, we will become the best we can be. Even
though there are huge differences among us, we are still one family—the family of God.
We have planned two ways we can help our children to experience solidarity over the
coming weeks:
Mufti-Day
The first is a wear Red and Black Mufti day for the Kaikoura Earthquake on Friday 2 nd of
December. All gold coin donations will be going to the Red Cross Appeal for Kaikoura.
The Giving Tree
The second is our Catholic Social Services Christmas Giving Tree which will be in our
foyer again next week until the Monday of the last week of school. Some of the families
that Catholic Social Services works with over the year find Christmas hard. Otari Parish
will try to help them by giving them some gifts for Christmas. We invite you to bring along
a small gift for either children, teenagers or adults and place it under the tree in the
school foyer. If you wrap it, please indicate on the outside if it is for a man, woman,
teenager, boy or girl and approximate age it would suit.

Enrolments for 2017
To help with the planning of classes in 2017 it is important that we are aware of any new
enrolments. If you have a child turning 5 in 2017 please get in contact with us to enrol
them for the next school year. In addition if you have family or friends who are
considering enrolling their children please encourage them to contact our office so we
can arrange a meeting to share our wonderful school with them.
Please also let us know if your family is relocating as it helps us to plan appropriate
farewells for your child/children.

Shared writing from Room 5
We have been learning about the planets in our solar system. We worked in pairs to
compare the earth with one other planet. We found some interesting differences and
similarities and organised them in a Venn diagram.
We were reading about Jupiter. We discovered that one of Jupiter’s moons called
Ganymede is bigger than Mercury but it is not a planet because it orbits Jupiter.
Jupiter’s big red spot is a storm sucking up other storms on its way.
Deep and Nicholas
Our planet was Saturn and it has more gravity than earth. We also found that it
takes 29 earth years to orbit the sun. It has 53
moons.
Crystal and Sophia
Uranus has 13 rings made up of mostly dust and
these rings were discovered in 1977. It is the coldest planet and it has 27 known
moons. Some of their names are Ariel, Titania and Oberon. Uranus has a magnetic
sphere with water at its core.

Congratulations
Wesley competed in the National Inline Hockey Championships in Hamilton last month and was awarded MVP for the
year. His team placed 2nd at the Bauer Cup Championships and just missed out on a medal at this years Nationals.
Congratulations Wesley!
