Exercise: - Find the Trade discount for a cd player that retails at $120 and has a
Trade discount rate of 35%.
Trade discount = rate x list price
35
Trade discount = 100 × 120 = 42$ It means that the wholesaler or retailer will NOT pay $42 of
the $120 list price.

Example 1: - Find the net price for a laptop that retails at $860 and has a trade discount rate
of 15%.
‫ عن طريق ضرب المعدل والذي دايما‬trade discount ‫ اول شيء نحصل‬-1
list price ‫يكون نسبة مئوية مع‬
Trade discount = rate x list price
15
Trade discount = 100 × 860 = 129$
Net ‫ علشان نحصل على‬List price ‫ نطرحة من‬trade price ‫ بعد مايبنا‬-2
Price
Net Price = List Price – Trade discount
Net Price = 860 – 129 =731 $.
Example 2: -Find the net price for a laptop that retails at $430 and has a trade discount rate of
15%.
Solution:
Trade Discount = 430× 0.15 = $64.5
Net price 430 − 64.5 = $365.5
The net price using Complement of percent:Complement of percent = 100% - single trade discount rate
Net Price = list price x complement of percent

Example: Find the net price of a coffee maker that lists for $50 and has a trade
discount rate of 35%.
Solution:
Complement of percent = 100% - single trade discount rate
Complement of percent = 100 – 35 =65%
Net Price = list price x complement of percent
65
Net Price = 50 x
= 32.5$

If the item has three discounts of 20%, 10%, and 5%, can you add them together
and apply 35% discount?
The answer is NO , you will do it series .
Example 2: - An item lists for $400 and
has a discount of 20% ,10%, 5% Find the Net
‫اذا عطاك نسب مختلفة للخصومات على نفس المبلغ بشكل متوالي‬
‫يتم الخصم بشكل منفرد بعملية منفصلة‬
Price
1Trade discount = $400 × 0.2 = $80
Net Price = $400 − $80 = $320
An additional discount of 10% is taken on
the previous price
‫مثال‬
Trade discount = $400 × 0.2 = $80
Net Price = $400 − $80 = $320
‫ الناتج وتتم عليه العملية من جديد‬net price ‫ويتم استخدام‬
‫على المبلغ الجديد‬
Complement of percent ‫األفضل استخدام‬
2Trade discount = $320 × 0.1 = $32
Net Price = $320 − $32 = $288
Complement of percent of 20% = 100-20 =80/100 =0.8
An additional discount of 5% is taken on
the previous price.
Complement of percent of 20% = 100-5 =95/100 =0.95
Complement of percent of 10% = 100-10 =90/100 =0.9
3Trade discount = $288 × 0.05 = $14.40
Net Price= $288 − $14.40 = $273.60
Other solution:
For the best way, we use the complement of
percent and multiply together.
𝑎 − 100% − 20% = 80%
𝑏 − 100% − 10% = 80%
𝑐 − 100% − 5% = 80%
