OUTDOOR ENTHUSIASTS GET READY FOR SUMMER AT THE
PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE KANSAS SPORTS, BOAT & TRAVEL SHOW
Show Starts Thursday, Feb. 16 at the Kansas Pavilions
WICHITA, KS – (January 23, 2012) – Local outdoor enthusiasts will have a chance to start
planning their summer adventures by shopping the best deals of the year on the latest boats, RVs and
outdoor recreational equipment at the Progressive Insurance Kansas Sports, Boat & Travel Show, part of
the Progressive RV & Outdoor Show Series. The event, sponsored by DISH Network, will take place
February 16 – 19, 2012 at the Kansas Pavilions. This is one of the most popular shows in the Heartland.
Attendees will find special show pricing on 2012 ski boats, fishing boats, pontoons, cruisers, jon boats,
travel trailers, fifth-wheels, toy haulers, motorcycles, ATVs, hunting and fishing tackle, supplies, and
exciting vacation packages.

and outdoor enthusiasts to escape the winter and to get a first look at an impressive variety of new
products and accessories to start planning their adventures for the coming summer season.”
Free, entertaining daily seminars will be held at the DISH Network Seminar Stage, great for the
whole family.
Attendees can plan the best attractions for their next trip from National Geographic author Gary
McKechnie, otherwise known as “The Travelin’ Man.” McKechnie has spent decades traveling across
the nation to discover quintessential sights, scenic areas, cultural events, and points of interest that
collectively create the American Experience. His seminars are packed with fresh perspectives on the
American Adventure, offering direction to help his audience get out of the house and on the road.
Pro fisherman Keith Johnson will also be on-site, offering educational fishing seminars with the
latest state-of-the-art 4,000 gallon aquarium. The Bass Tub, over 40 feet in length, allows Mr. Johnson to

use live fish during demonstrations so the audience can get involved. Each demonstration, conducted on
top of a mounted boat on the end of the Bass Tub, will include a variety of baits and presentations and
will be packed full of professional angler tips and tactics.
Kids can cheer on their favorite live ducks in The Great American Duck Race. Sixteen children
(and adults) are chosen during each show to release the ducks in the racetrack, and prizes are given to the
winners of each race. Interesting facts about Mallard ducks are revealed throughout the show, prepared
by the Ducks Unlimited, Inc. national staff, exclusively for the Great American Duck Race of New
Mexico.
The Wichita Eagle’s Great Outdoors Photo Contest is back and looking for top outdoors photos.
Eagle photographers will select the top 15 adult and top 5 youth photos (ages 16 and under) for display at
the show and on Kansas.com. The Wichita Eagle will also be giving away 15 staff photos displayed at
the show. The deadline for submissions is February 10, and all entrants will receive one free ticket to the
Sports Show, available at the ticket window. Attendees can vote for the winners at the show, Feb. 16 –
19, or online at Kansas.com, Feb. 14 – 19. Winners will be revealed on the Wichita Eagle’s Outdoors
page on Feb. 19.
Attendees will also have a chance to register to win a Keystone RV in the Rediscover America RV
Giveaway. Three prizes will be awarded: Bullet Ultra Lite Travel Trailer, Hideout Travel Trailer, and a
Passport Ultra Lite Travel Trailer.
The Progressive Insurance Kansas Sports, Boat & Travel Show will take place at the Kansas
Pavilions, February 16 – 19, 2012. Show hours are Thursday, 3pm – 9pm; Friday, Noon – 9pm; Saturday,
10am – 8:30pm; and Sunday, 10am – 5pm. Tickets are $9.50 for adults and free for children under 12.
