Scope
The requirements listed in this ICPR apply to product of New Zealand only,
unless specifically stated.
This standard specifies Fiji's phytosanitary requirements for the stated
commodities and commodity classes only. If a commodity class is not listed
under Section 3 "Commodity Class Requirements" or Section 4 "Commodity
Specific Requirements" exporters should contact:


Phytosanitary Certificates
Phytosanitary certificates are required to accompany consignments of all
commodity classes imported from New Zealand unless specified.

2.4
Quarantine Pests
For a list of quarantine pests refer to Appendix 1. The scientific name and
classification used is checked for accuracy against the European and
Mediterranean Plant Protection Organisation (EPPO) Global database
(https://gd.eppo.int/). Please note the scientific name remains as the definitive
name. In addition, MPI will also include synonyms specified by the importing
country for use on additional declarations.
Quarantine pests for Fiji include organisms specified in Appendix 1 of this
ICPR, additional declarations and/or import permit.
To request a copy of the pest list (Appendix 1) in excel format, please refer to
section 1.1.

Ports of Entry
Items of quarantine concern may only be imported through declared Ports of
Entry as stated on the phytosanitary import permit. ref Plant Quarantine Act 1982

Inspection on Arrival
All consignments of imported plant material are subject to visual inspection by
Biosecurity Authority of Fiji for phytosanitary purposes upon arrival. ref
Questionnaire 1997

Rate of sampling upon arrival is 5% (of the consignment), selected at random.

Fumigation with Methyl Bromide at a rate of 32 gms per cubic metre for 2 hours at a
temperature of not less than 21 degrees celcius. Product not to be wrapped in
polythene during fumigation. Treatment to be endorsed on phytosanitary certificate.
Capsicum annuum

Import permit required. Phytosanitary certificate required. Capsicums may be
exported under one of the two following options.
Option 1: Systems Approach.
Capsicums must be sourced from a MPI registered glasshouse that has mitigating
measures in place to control psyllid populations.
Additional Declaration required “Capsicums were brushed or washed to remove any
and all stages of psyllid”.
OR
Option 2: Capsicums not produced under the systems approach
mandatory methyl bromide fumigation at one of the following rates:
- 48g/m3 for 2 hours at 100-150C
- 40g/m3 for 2 hours at 160-200C
- 32g/m3 for 2 hours at 210C
The treatment must be endorsed in the ‘Treatments Section’ of the phytosanitary
certificate.
