Join the Girl Scouts and the City of Hobart in gearing up for our community holiday tree lighting celebration by participating in the Community Tree Trim. Sponsoring a tree is a beautiful way to celebrate the holidays with the City of Hobart and help the scouts make repairs to maintain the Scout Cabin in Jerry Pavese Park! The Girl Scouts of Hobart and Lake Station are hosting this community tree trim as a fundraiser to make repairs and maintain the Hobart Scout Cabin for future generations. A special ‘thank you’ for the support of Hobart Special Events and Parks Department to making this fundraiser possible. A $50.00 donation price includes a six-seven foot fresh tree from Sappers, a laminated, staked sign advertising your support and electricity if you wish to string lights on your tree. An additional $25.00 donation and the Girl Scouts can decorate your tree for you. The Parks Dept will secure the trees to rebar, near an electrical box in Festival Park. All the lights on the trees will not be plugged in until the Tree Lighting Ceremony in Festival Park on December 4th. Girl Scout referral name:_____________________________ COMMUNITY TREE TRIM Sunday, November 29th from 1:00pm - 3:00pm Assemble your group, make your ornaments, and head to Festival Park, 111 East Old Ridge Road, Hobart, to trim your tree! Arrangements can be made to decorate your tree during the week (Monday, November 30 to Thursday, December 3), if absolutely necessaryspecific arrangements must be made. All trees will be on display during the Community Tree Lighting Ceremony December 4th! PLEASE MAKE ORNANMENTS DURABLE TO WITHSTAND THE WEATHER; PLEASE REMEMBER DURABILITY Ornaments should be painted, varnished, shellacked, or laminated (this does not include food items) with non-water soluble glue. Please hang ornaments with string or yarn (no wire or pipe cleaners). Secure the ornaments tightly, remember, they may blow off. Your groups should make enough ornaments to sufficiently decorate these trees. Approximately 100 -125 ornaments. Please Note: If your group would like to keep its ornaments, you can remove them by December 28, 2015, during daylight hours. Ornaments left on the trees will be discarded and will not be saved. For safety and durability reasons, if ornaments are made from the following materials, we reserve the right to deny placement of ornaments on trees and/or improper ornaments will be removed. Please keep in mind the health and safety of the visitors, the community and the environment when creating your ornaments. Be creative! There are many great ways to create safe, even recycled, tree decorations! *The Girl Scouts or the City of Hobart is not responsible for ornaments that are missing, stolen or lost. Materials NOT Recommended: FOOD ITEMS (including but not limited to): • Food on strings (popcorn, cereal, cranberries, peanuts, pasta, marshmallows, crackers, Graham crackers) • Real candies, including candy canes • Ice cream cones with birdseed or any ornament with birdseed • Any sort of pet food NON-DURABLE ITEMS • Glass • Ornaments made of dough, even if the dough is covered in some sort of varnish • Objects with jagged edges • Unlaminated paper • No tinsel please or straw • Do not hang anything valuable* Materials Recommended for Ornaments: • Decorated popsicle sticks • Laminated paper • Styrofoam balls • Plastic needlepoint Clothespins • Foil wrapped objects • • • • • • Strung beads Yarn Fabric Soda cans Plastic containers (film, margarine) Plastic milk bottles
