Social Science Education Consortium Conference http://www.soc-sci-ed-consortium.org/ Mending Walls: Historical, Socio-Political, Economic and Geographic Perspectives Berlin, Germany June 21-26, 2016 Call for Proposals We invite proposals from social science education researchers, pedagogues, practitioners and others to participate in the upcoming SSEC Conference to be held in Berlin, Germany. The conference also will feature invited presentations by distinguished scholars from Germany. Proposals may focus on the conference theme and/or feature new directions in research, policy and practice in social science education. This year’s theme will highlight Mending Walls: Historical, Socio-Political, Economic and Geographic Perspectives, but proposals need not be specifically on that theme. Mending Walls is based on Robert Frost’s poem and has multi-layered meanings for the social sciences. Proposals may explore the metaphor of “good neighbors,” “walls,” or other applications relevant to the social sciences and/or historical context of Berlin. Modes of Presentation: Presentations will be offered in multi‐modal formats, including: 90 minute themed panels (ideally, no more than 3 presenters, no discussant and allowing 15 of these minutes for discussion) 60 minute roundtable paper presentations (a combination of 3 individual papers presented and discussed at the roundtable) Proposal submission To promote broad participation in the conference, your name must appear on one submission only. In addition, an individual must not appear on the program more than once (e.g. in the role of roundtable presenter, discussant, or panel participant). Proposals must be no more than two single‐spaced pages in length and must include the following sections (incomplete proposals will not be accepted). All proposals must be submitted as a Word document: 1. Names, affiliations, addresses, and e‐mail addresses of all presenters 2. Brief title, capturing the primary focus, concern, or topic of the session 3. Brief rationale explicating the theoretical grounding of the session, and its relevance to the theme and interests of the conference (500 words max without references) 4. Indication of session type (e.g. roundtable paper presentation, themed panel) 5. Indication of provisions for involving audience participation, and format 6. Abstract for inclusion in the conference program (100 word maximum). Panel proposals should include a 100 word summary abstract for inclusion in the conference program and 100 word abstracts from each of the presenters (also for inclusion in the conference program). Proposal Submission The deadline for submissions is November 30, 2015. Note: To facilitate the timely announcement of the conference program, there will be no deadline extension. Proposals can only be submitted to [email protected]. Proposals will be reviewed by our program committee and volunteer reviewers. If you are interested in reviewing proposals, please put “SSEC volunteer reviewer” in the email subject and your position (e.g. graduate student, faculty) and areas of research interest in the body of the email, to [email protected]. If you have any questions about abstracts and the theme of the SSEC conference, please contact [email protected]. If you have any questions about travel and invitation letters for presenters and attendees at the SSEC conference, please contact [email protected].
