Having first opened its doors in 1907, The Fairmont
San Francisco is proud to be an integral centerpiece of the City by the Bay.
From its role as a command center for city officials planning the rise of San
Francisco following the Great Earthquake to its distinction as the headquarters
for the drafting of the United Nations Charter, The Fairmont continues to make
history on both the local and world stage. Known as “The White House of
the West,” The Fairmont is the San Francisco residence for US Presidents and
world leaders as well as the stars of sports, stage and screen. When on site at the
hotel, we welcome you to visit our “Heritage Hall,” which chronicles the rich
history of San Francisco and its quintessential hotel through rare photos and
memorabilia. In this way, we invite you to be a part of the past, as well as the
future of Fairmont San Francisco.

Surroundings
Known for its spectacular setting surrounded by the tranquil waters of the bay,
San Francisco sits amid the peaks and valleys of dozens of picturesque hills.
With some of the world’s most recognized landmarks punctuating the horizon,
including Alcatraz, Coit Tower and the Palace of Fine Arts, it’s easy to navigate
the city’s many interesting neighborhoods.
San Francisco’s vibrant cultural heritage, combined with its incredible architecture and stunning views, make it one of the most popular cities to visit in the
world. And located atop prestigious Nob Hill is one of the Crown Jewels of
San Francisco. Recognized as the original Fairmont Hotel, it is as much an icon
of this great city as the Cable Cars and the Golden Gate Bridge.
