Driver’s Education Program 2017-18 Please register now as space will fill on a first-come, first-served basis. A certified driving instructor from Jordan Driving School will be on-site teaching this traditional classroom course. Space is limited to a minimum of 28 students and a maximum of 32 students per session. Who can register: Cary Academy students who are 14 ½ years of age by the course start date Dates: Time: Fall Break Session November 13 - 17, 2017 (first week of fall break) Spring Break Session March 5 - 9, 2018 (second week of spring break) Summer Session June 18 - 22, 2018 (one week after end of school year) Summer Sessions Held throughout summer at all Wake County Public High Schools. Students should bring a bag lunch to eat during their working lunch. Please be sure to list your school of preference when asked to do so during class. Note that the Behind-the-Wheel course is not available at Cary Academy, but rather at high schools throughout Wake County. A Jordan Driving School instructor will contact you directly to make driving arrangements. Please call Upper School Administrative Assistant Danielle McGrath at 919-228-4544 with any questions Regulations 1. Approximately one month prior to class start, Ms. McGrath at Cary Academy will send instructions as to how to pay and report the $55 fee to confirm your seat in the class. A notification email goes to the lead teacher when you pay online or in the JDS office. This confirms that you plan to attend the assigned class. Contact Ms. McGrath at Cary Academy if you cannot attend so that a student on the waitlist may be contacted. 2. You must be in attendance the first day and if you miss more than 4 hours of class instruction, you will be dropped from the class. 3. You are expected to follow the WCPSS guidelines. Failure to comply with these guidelines will result in removal from the class. Any student removed for disciplinary reasons will not be allowed to take Driver Education through the school system again. 4. You should bring your tablet, pencils, paper, and a copy of your birth certificate. 5. You must provide your own transportation to and from the school. Driver’s Education Behind-the-Wheel Session Upon successful completion of the Driver’s Education Classroom course students will be contacted by an instructor from Jordan Driving School. At this time they will schedule the behindthe-wheel driving portion of the program. (This process may take eight weeks or more, due to the volume of students throughout Wake County.) Driver’s Eligibility Certificate Once you have successfully completed both the classroom and the behind-the-wheel courses, a PARENT/GUARDIAN must bring the Driver Education Certificate (which was issued to the student upon completion of the behind-the-Wheel session) to the Upper School Office. The student does not need to be present. You will be issued a Driver’s Eligibility Certificate (DEC) to take to the Division of Motor Vehicles.
