PARENT-CHILD SWIM LESSONS (6-36 MONTHS OLD WITH PARENT)
Skipper
Infant and toddler water adjustment class enhances motor coordination and social skills, plus an introduction to water safety. Parent and
child have the opportunity to spend quality time together. Child must be accompanied by a supervising adult in the water.
PRESCHOOL SWIM LESSONS (3-5 YEARS OLD)
Pike
This level helps children develop safe pool behavior, adjust to the water, and develop independent movement in the water. It is designed
for new swimmers, teaching basic paddle stroke and kicking skills, pool safety, proper use of IFDs and PFDs, and comfort with holding
their face in the water while blowing bubbles and swimming.
Eel
This level is for children who are comfortable in the water, including blowing bubbles with their face in the water. They are taught to kick,
float, and perform the progressive crawl stroke. They also learn basic boating safety and use of PFDs. Children can swim 15 feet without
assistance at the end of this level.
Ray
Children at this level work on refining front, back and side strokes with face in and breathing. Breaststroke is also introduced along with
more advanced water safety skills. Children can swim 20 feet without assistance by the end of this level.
Starfish
Children continue to refine their strokes including front crawl with side breathing, elementary backstroke with glide, back crawl with
straight arms, breaststroke with glide, and sidestroke. They also learn underwater swimming skills. Children can swim 40 feet without
assistance at the end of this level.
SCHOOL AGE SWIM LESSONS (6-12 YEARS OLD)
Polliwog
This is the beginning level for school-age children. It gets children acquainted with the pool, comfortable in the water, introduces the use
of floatation devices, and floating. By the end of this level they should know the front crawl stroke, side and backstroke. Children have
more confidence by the end of this level and should feel comfortable blowing bubbles with their face in the water.
Guppy
Children in this level are able to swim at least 20 feet on front, back, and side. They are introduced to the backstroke, sidestroke,
breaststroke, and elementary backstroke. Children can swim a length of the pool without assistance at the end of this level.
Minnow
For children able to swim independently for a distance of 25 yards with the following strokes: front crawl with side breathing, basic
elementary backstroke, back crawl with strait arms, and rudimentary sidestroke and breaststroke. Water safety skills are also emphasized.
Fish
At this point, students work to perform the crawl stroke, elementary backstroke, backstroke and sidestroke, with turns. They are
introduced to the butterfly. They continue to work on refining and combining skills while building endurance.
Flying Fish
At this level students should have refined front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke and be able to swim
100 yards continuously, with the exclusion of butterfly. They will also be introduced to competitive swimming skills. Students will continue
to learn water safety and rescue skills.
Shark
This level is for children who have mastered the competitive strokes. The swimmers continue
to refine strokes, increase endurance, and learn workout techniques. Children should be able
to swim the following strokes with excellent form for 100 yards: front crawl with bilateral breathing, back crawl, elementary backstroke,
sidestroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.
TEEN AND ADULT (12-17 YEARS AND 18+)
Classes will focus on the individual goals and needs of each student.
This class helps develop comfort in the water, introduce air exchange, floating on front and back and learn basic crawl stroke and other
basic strokes. They are introduced to the backstroke, sidestroke, breaststroke, and elementary backstroke. With emphasis on technique
to increase endurance.
