South West Festival Chorus provides unforgettable choral experiences in Britain and on
tour abroad to singers of all levels.
Our Principal Conductor is Jason Thornton, Music Director of the

youngest ever to conduct the complete
Mahler Symphonies, and a musician of
real integrity and depth of experience

South West with in excess of 200
Choristers
We are non-auditioning, but aim for
high artistic standards
We meet twice a year for Winter
and Summer Schools
Our remit is to perform works that
are beyond the means of most
choral societies
We rehearse intensively over two
weekends in the South West region
We perform in major cathedrals
and concert halls
We frequently tour our performances - previously to Leipzig,
Paris, Beijing & Shanghai and in
2014 to India - using the fully

This year, George Bevan joins South
West Festival Chorus as our 2nd Conductor & Chorus Master, bringing
with him a wealth of experience as a
choral director. George is Director of
Music at Monkton Senior School and
runs several choirs in the Bath area,
including the Monkton Combe Choral
Society and the Genesis Trust Choir.
Our Administrator & Chorus Manager
is Joanna Wiesner, one of the most experienced classical events managers in the
country. In the 2012 Jubilee Honours,
Joanna was created an MBE for services to
music and the arts in Bath
Our winter and summer schools take place in a ‘festival’ atmosphere and always feature a performance in
the UK, and summer tours to both long- and shorthaul destinations. We pride ourselves on our friendly
approach, and in the joy of performing great music
in good company to the highest of standards in fascinating venues throughout the world

2017. We are delighted to welcome George Bevan, Head of Music at Monkton
Senior School and a superb musician, very widely in demand for his work as a choir
master, conductor, pianist and organist, as our new Music Director. This year’s Summer School takes us back to our beginnings as we join Frome Festival’s popular programme to sing two of Mozart’s most beautiful and melodic choral works. These are
contrasted with excerpts from his wonderful operas, sung by talented young soloists
from Iford New Generation Artists Programme - and all this performed in a lovely
church right in the heart of Frome, with Frome Festival Orchestra . . . .
