1A1 LT1.1 Acorn Welder Program Welding Structural Welder Pre-employment Layout Techniques On-line Delivery Steel Layout Techniques Course Overview The Acorn Pre-employment (PE) Basic Layout Techniques course has been developed to provide key safety and theoretical training for those looking to pursue a career in the welding and joining industry. Delivered in an online (or optional classroom) environment, this course puts an emphasis on understanding the principals of laying out parts in a shop environment. The course is taken on-line within a self-paced environment that provides an opportunity to spend the time required to correctly learn and retain the key concepts of parts layout. Throughout each section, there are regular self-check quizzes followed by a final unit exam. Marks for these are automatically shared with instructors to allow follow-up and individual assistance, if required. The goal is to ensure that everyone entering the optional classroom recap portion of the course has the required level of knowledge needed to allow for ongoing success throughout the remainder of the Acorn Pre-employment courses. Quick Facts Course Type On-line or Classroom. On-line theory1 hosted by CWBi. While this course is designed to have theory delivered on-line, classroom theory material is also provided for instructors who want to recap the key theoretical knowledge required to layout variously shaped parts in a welding shop. This is supported through the use, where appropriate, of interactive 3D models, 3D printed reference samples and videos. Content Length / On-line Access Theory: 16 hours / Up to 1 week 2 Prerequisites None, would benefit from prior training through the Acorn High School welder program Outcomes Entry level structural welder Testing and Assessment This course counts towards Acorn Pre-employment credits cwbinstitute Building Futures Update 1 Copyright © 2015 CWB Group Industry Services Acorn LT1.1 Learning Sections Health & Safety Layout Techniques Theory On-line theory with optional in-class resources In-Shop exercises Standardized national testing Safety Legislation - Overview of legislation Creating Safe Work Environments - WHMIS and MSDS On-the-job Hazards - Types, acceptable levels and precautions Personal Protection and PPE - Requirements and equipment Oxy-fuel Safety - Risks, handling and setup procedure Confined Spaces - Risks and precautions Lockout and Tag-out - Overview and procedures Introduction - Overview of the course Objectives Units of Measurement - Metric and Imperial Errors in Measurement and Layout - Errors in measurements, tolerances Basic Principles of Measurement - Accuracy and precision, Types of errors, Tolerances, Calibration of instruments, Cumulative errors Layout Tools - Soapstone, Pencils, Punches, Scribes, Chalkline, Tape measures, Squares, Dividers, Trammel point set Layout of Large Diameters - Layout method Geometric Construction Techniques - Bisecting a line, Constructing: Parallel lines, Perpendicular lines and 30o, 45o and 60o angles, Finding the centre of a circle, Laying out bolt circles. These exercises are downloadable from the Online course. Completion of the exercises will require the use of several tool, including a protractor and compass. A layout toolkit containing the necessary tools required for this course is available from the CWBinstitute store. In becoming an Acorn Educational Partner, you become part of a larger group of educators and industry representatives who are focused on providing the best possible training for people entering or already in the workforce. cwbinstitute A key part of being an Educational Partner is committing to and maintaining content delivery, testing and Assessment uniformity. As such, there are some requirements that must be met to ensure this takes place. There are four steps to this process: Step 1 – School or School Board Application (form AP1.1) Step 2 – Instructor/ Assessor Application (form AP1.2) Step 3 – School Audit and instructor interviews Step 4 – Acorn Certification, granting of access Under this system, each applicant school must go through a formal application process followed by an on-site facilities audit. During the audit, the teaching facilities and equipment will be assessed and Instructor and Assessor applications will be completed and initially reviewed. The result of the audit and the applications will be sent to CWBi where they will be used to determine the types of Acorn courses and assessments that can be performed at the school. Once this has been determined, CWBi-provided training sessions will be booked for the school’s instructors, leading to qualification as Acorn Instructors and Assessors. Training can take from one to three weeks, depending on instructor skill levels and knowledge and the types of Acorn courses being taught and Assessments to be completed. find out more at CWBinstitute.org Notes: 1 - Can be supported by on-line one-on-one or group instructor facilitated sessions 2 - Actual time will vary depending on individual ability 3 - Not all resources are available for all courses, check with CWBinstitute for specific details start Material Handling Course (MH1.1) Trade Math Primer Course (TM1.0) Acorn - Lifetime Learning and Recognition Acorn Credentials Applied Trade Math Course (TM1.1) Acorn Skills Assessments Hand & Power Tools Course (ST1.1) Acorn Industry Assessments Drawing Interpret.
