New St. James Presbyterian Church London, Ontario A Service of Lessons and Carols Christmas Sunday - December 27, 2015 - 10:30 a.m. Prelude Call to Worship Gentle Mary Laid Her Child (Tempus Adest Floridum) Hymn 166 Once in royal David’s city (Irby) First Lesson Hymn 139 Isaiah 9:2-7 Hark! The herald angels sing (Mendelssohn) Solo J. Leavitt (©1991) Ring Out, Wild Bells Ch. Gounod (1818-1893) Morgan Traynor, mezzo-soprano Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky, the flying cloud, the frosty light: the year is dying in the night; ring out, wild bells, and let him die. Ring out the old, ring in the new, ring happy bells, across the snow. The year is going, let him go; ring out the false, ring in the true. Ring out the grief that saps the mind, for those that here we no more see; ring out the feud of rich and poor, ring in redress to all mankind. Ring out the want, the care, the sin, the faithless coldness of the times. Ring out, ring out my mournful rhymes, but ring the fuller minstrel in. Ring out old shapes of foul disease; ring out the narrowing lust of gold; ring out the thousand wars of old, ring in the thousand years of peace. Ring in the valiant man and free, the larger heart, the kindlier hand, ring out the darkness of the land, ring in the Christ, that is to be! But a severe drought affecting large swaths of land in Pakistan destroyed grain crops and left the family—and many others in the village—without enough food to eat. Narso and her husband are disabled, so their only source of income during the drought was the small earnings of their youngest son, who worked as a helper in a house a village away. In response, Presbyterian World Service & Development collaborated with local partners to distribute food packages to families affected by the drought. “I have been saved from taking out loans, selling my livestock and borrowing food,” shares Narso. FOOD CUPBOARD Please consider donating soups, canned vegetables, tuna, cereals, diapers, women’s sanitary supplies, toiletries, and 250, 500, 750 ml plastic containers to St. Paul’s Daily Bread Program. Baskets are located at all entrances. NEW ST. JAMES - WHAT WE BELIEVE: God is calling the people of New St James, as followers of Jesus Christ, to worship God and to serve the community.
