HAGOPIAN WORLD OF RUGS & The College for Creative Studies 20th Annual Student Rug Design Competition Open to All Students Scholarship / Competition Awards furnished by Hagopian • 1st Place $1,000 • 2nd Place $500 • 3rd Place $250 • Honorable Mention $100 Winning design will be produced and displayed at the CCS 2009 Student Exhibition We are the Guardians We are the Guardians DESIGN CRITERIA: On this special occasion of our 20th anniversary for the Hagopian World of Rugs Student Rug Design Competition, we would like to tap the enormous energy and talent at the College for Creative Studies to use the idea of working together to build a better world through the observation and use of eco-friendly products. The 2009 criteria will be to design a rug using “green” ideas and methods, e.g.; using eco-friendly fibers like wool, a renewable resource and cotton. Using a palette of colors from nature’s bounty, the rug should be designed as a focal point and entrants must describe the environment where the rug will be used and include a color statement. The winning design will be reproduced as closely as possible based on design submitted. Finished rug size parameter will be 5’ x 7’ rectangular or 6’ x 6’ square. Presentations must be surrounded by a 3” black mat. There should be no space between the design and the mat. If submitting a design to be translated into a 5’ x 7’ rectangular rug, the scale will be 1.5 in=1 ft and the final rendering size (including matting) will be 7-1/2” x 10-1/2”. If designing for the 6’ square finished rug, the scale will be 1.25 in=1 ft and the rendering size will be 7-1/2” x 7-1/2”. Design should be presented in fully saturated hues that can be interpreted by a manufacturer. No computer generated entries please. Suggested techniques include water color, pencils, gouache, pantone paper or acrylics. No printing on the face of design and/ or mat. Previously produced designs or designs that have received publicity in any media publication may not be submitted. We strongly recommend that you keep a copy of your design for future reference in the event designs may not be returned. Entries not conforming to the rules and regulations of this competition will be automatically disqualified. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS: Entries must comply with design requirements & include: 1. A signed entry form completed and placed in an unmarked envelope glued to the back of the entry. 2. A statement of what inspired the design, the “green” elements and a description of the interior environment where the designer visualizes its use. 3. The top of the design should be clearly marked on back of illustration. 4. Student may submit multiple entries. 5. Entrants must be enrolled in CCS Winter 2009 classes. DEADLINE: Entries must be received at the Institutional Advancement Office no later than February 10, 2009. Winners will be notified upon selection. Winning entries will be unveiled at the 2009 Student Exhibition at CCS with scholarship awards announced at that time. Hagopian World of Rugs, Inc., shall have the right to display the submitted designs at any time, any place and for any purpose and that no fee will be paid to any entrant for displaying the submissions. The first, second and third place winners, as well as the honorable mention winner, shall receive no further compensation for display or use of their designs other than the original prize awards. Hagopian World of Rugs, Inc., shall pay a one-time $150 fee to any nonwinning entrant, if Hagopian World of Rugs, Inc., produces a rug using the submitted design.
