Auction Rules
1.
The Silent Auction will begin promptly at 4:00 p.m. and continue without interruption until all items have been auctioned. Doors will open at 3:45 p.m. in order to
give you an opportunity to view the various items prior to bidding.
2.
Payment by the successful bidder should be made at the close of the Live
Auction. Payment may be made with cash, check, VISA or Master Card.
3.
All checks should be made payable to: OAKLAND CITY UNIVERSITY
DEPARTMENT OF ATHLETICS.
4.
All sales are FINAL and there will be NO EXCHANGES or REFUNDS on items
except where specified.
5.
All auction items must be removed from Oakland City University on the evening
of the auction. A PAID receipt, obtained from the auction cashier, must be
presented before items can be removed. For large items please make
arrangements for pickup by 9:00 a.m. Monday.
6.
The auction checkout form should serve as your official receipt for items
purchased at the “OCU Athletic Auction 2016”. The value set forth for each\
item is a good faith estimate of the fair market value as required by the IRS.
7.
Unless otherwise specified, all auction items and services must be used within
one year after September 24, 2016.
Note: In cases where more than one bidder shares in the cost of an Oral Auction
item, a representative from the bidding group must notify the auction cashier’s
immediately of the participating bidders and their respective share of the cost.

IMPORTANT TAX INFORMATION
The IRS now requires charitable organizations, such as OAKLAND CITY UNIVERSITY,
to inform its contributors as to the deductibility of payments and donations made by patrons for fund-raising activities. The following are guidelines and are provided to assist
you in tax preparation.
1.
Admission Fee
The admission fee is tax deductible, minus $8.00.
2.
Items Purchased Items purchased at the Live and Silent Auctions are tax
deductible for the amounts paid in excess of the fair market value of each item.
3.
Cash Contributions All cash contributions are entirely tax deductible.
4.
Item Contributions Contributions of items are tax deductible to the fullest extent
of the law. For non-cash property donations, it is advised
that you consult your tax professional, since the IRS has
specific requirements for filing which may apply to you (e.g.,
an official appraisal may be warranted if the value of an item
exceeds $5,000.00).
5.
Official Receipts
The auction check-out form should serve as your official
receipt of items purchased at this Benefit Auction. The value
set for each item is a “good faith estimate”, as required by
the IRS. You may deduct only what is paid in excess of
each gift’s fair market value.
ADMINISTRATION FEE
At tonight’s auction you have the opportunity to help the OAKLAND CITY UNIVERSITY
DEPARTMENT OF ATHLETICS and the many student/athletes who participate in the
various athletic programs. Your attendance here and your active bidding on auction
items is already a great help to the student-athletes. Tonight, when you purchase auction items, you probably already know that Indiana State Sales Tax at the rate of 7% will
not be charged on your purchases; however, your purchases will be subject to a services fee.
The services fee rate is 10%, and the fee provides for the cashiers, the computer equipment, the auction consulting work CM Benefit Auctions does for the OAKLAND CITY
UNIVERSITY ATHLETIC AUCTION. In addition, this service fee provides silent and live
auction invoices and the bid cards for tonight’s auction.
Everyone recognizes that this service fee amounts to an additional expense to you as
a purchaser, and we ask you to recognize that your generosity in accepting this simple
fee is another way that you can help the DEPARTMENT OF ATHLETICS at OAKLAND
CITY UNIVERSITY.
If you have any questions concerning the services fee, please feel free to ask either the
auctioneer or cashier for clarification.
