LIBRARY DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF JAMES WILLIAMS, 33°
St. Joseph Scottish Rite Masons have dedicated their new library to the memory of
Illustrious Brother James Williams. Brother Williams, who passed away in 2011, was a
prolific and award-winning Masonic author. A Fellow of the Missouri Lodge of Research,
Brother Jim served as its Master in 1999. He was also the Grand Lodge of Missouri's
representative to Quatuor Coronati Lodge #2076, the Grand Lodge of England's iconic
research Lodge. Over the years he amassed a huge collection of Masonic books and
materials which he donated to the St. Joseph Scottish Rite. This collection initially
formed the basis of the new facility.
James Williams (1928-2011)
Executive Secretary Doug Reece, 32° KCCH, announced the completion of the library and
recognized the Brothers who led the effort, "We owe a special thanks to Emmett
Bryson, 32° KCCH, Jerry Euler, 32° KCCH,JR Mease, 32° and Pat Squires 32° KCCH."
According to Brother Reece, donations to the library are welcome, and he is confident
the James Williams Library will be an important Masonic resource for years to come.
VALLEY MEMBERS DISCUSS FUNDRAISING IDEAS
At the Valley's May meeting, the membership reviewed the financial statements prepared by Executive Secretary Doug
Reece, 32° KCCH. Illustrious Gary Hinderks asked for fundraising ideas in order to continue to move the valley forward.
Brother Emmett Bryson. 32° KCCH. offered the services of the Valley's Knights of St. Andrews group, which has been
actively supporting such efforts since its inception.
At the close of the meeting, Brother Emmett invited Brothers to assemble in an informal meeting to discuss some plans
he and the KSA group had been formulating. Several Brothers remained to work with Emmett and retired to one of the
classrooms in the building. The group nearly filled the room as they discussed various fundraising activities.
Brother Emmett outlined plans he has been working on to put together a sale to be held in the valley's parking lot. The
group discussed the logistics of such an event and determined that having it this year was too soon, but decided to
investigate the possibility of holding the sale in the late spring or early summer of 2015. Other Brothers volunteered to
assist with the project by planning food services, researching city permit requirements and other things.
While no plans have been cast in concrete, the group agreed the idea was sound and also agreed to continue working
on the possibility of this event next year. Look for more information about this fundraising opportunity in future
editions of this newsletter.
KNIGHTS OF ST. ANDREW SPONSOR DINNER
At the August meeting of the Four Bodies, the St. Joseph Knights of St.
Andrew once again stepped up, as has become its tradition, and
provided dinner for the Brothers. The proceeds of the dinner went to
the benefit of the Valley. The St. Joseph KoSA is small but has been
increasingly playing a key role in helping out at the Valley.
