GUILDHALL ARTIST MASTERS (ADVANCED INSTRUMENTAL STUDIES PATHWAY) AUDITION REQUIREMENTS FOR WIND, BRASS & PERCUSSION Advanced Instrumental Studies This specialism is intended for students showing a high level of ability and musicianship with the potential for a career as a soloist or in chamber music. The expectation is that students who take this pathway come with advanced instrumental ability and musical understanding and also have a broad understanding of repertoire for their instrument. All candidates for woodwind and brass auditions must prepare: 1) The set work (first movement only) 2) One own choice piece 3) The prescribed orchestral excerpts An accompanist is provided (you must bring the piano parts with you to the audition). Sight-reading may be asked of all candidates, including saxophone and recorder. Saxophone, Recorder, and Timpani and percussion requirements are different from above, and are indicated separately below. Requests for particular instruments for multi-percussion set-ups must be emailed to [email protected] when you are offered an audition time, and no later than two weeks before the audition date. SAXOPHONE Three contrasting pieces of your own choice. The panel may hear selections from your pieces within your allocated audition time. A pianist will be at your audition (including warm-up time). Please notify Richard Benjafield at least ten days before your audition date if you are playing some accompanied repertoire that may not be so commonly known, and supply a copy of the piano accompaniment by email to [email protected] RECORDER Three contrasting pieces appropriate to your instrument, including contemporary repertoire if you wish. No orchestral excerpts are required.
