FOR IMMEDIATE RELESASE Granby, CO, May 9, 2017 Contacts: Martha Moore, Colorado River District, [email protected], 970-945-8522 Kayli Foulk, Grand County Water Information Network, [email protected], 970-627-8162 Leading water expert to discuss the State of the Colorado River in Granby, May 17th Anne Castle, former federal water official and resident expert at University of Colorado-Boulder law school, will headline the Grand County State of the River meeting on Wednesday, May 17th, beginning at 5:30 for refreshments and 6:00 pm for the program at The Inn at Silver Creek, Granby. Ms. Castle and other water professionals will explain the causes and effects of local and regional river and reservoir operations for the upcoming season. As part of an annual series of public water education forums, the Colorado River District and local partners are hosting a free gathering with lots of information on what makes the Colorado River system ebb and flow, with a focus on the Upper Colorado in Grand County. Light refreshments will be served starting at 5:30 pm with networking and informal discussions before the program begins at 6 pm; it lasts until 8 pm. The keynote speaker, Anne Castle, is now a senior fellow at the Getches-Wilkinson Center for Natural Resources, Energy and the Environment – part of the University of Colorado-Boulder law school. From 2009-14, she served as Assistant Secretary for Water and Science in the U.S. Department of the Interior where she helped manage the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and the U.S. Geological Survey. The title of her talk is: As Goes Grand County, So Goes the Colorado River”. Additionally, representatives of the Bureau of Reclamation, Northern Water, Denver Water, and the Colorado River District will be present information on “What can you expect this water year”? They will describe in detail the projected operations at Granby, Williams Fork, Wolford Mountain Reservoirs and key Grand County water facilities and the conditions that drive important decision making. Other important topics to be covered include “Learning By Doing,” a unique cooperative partnership of East and West Slope water resource stakeholders that will provide an update on their Fraser River Restoration Project designed to maximize water use efficiencies and to optimize benefits to river health. Rounding out the evening’s agenda is Grand County Water Information Network (GCWIN) Executive Director Kayli Foulk who will discuss and describe on-going intensive data collection in Grand County waters.
