Mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation The mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is to cure cystic fibrosis and to provide all people with the disease the opportunity to lead full, productive lives by funding research and drug development, promoting individualized treatments, and ensuring access to high quality, specialized care. In all that we do, we are committed to fulfilling this mission. Our Progress Ours is a story of incredible hope and optimism. Because of CF Foundation-driven advances in care and research, CF is no longer considered a "childhood" disease. Through our efforts, the life expectancy of a person with CF has doubled in the last 30 years. Today, many people with CF are living into their 30s, 40s and beyond. Virtually every approved therapy for cystic fibrosis was made possible with CF Foundation support. In the last several years, drug discovery and development programs have yielded drugs that have changed the course of cystic fibrosis. For the first time, there is an FDA-approved therapy (Kalydeco) that treats not just the symptoms of the disease but the underlying genetic defect for a small percentage of the population. Recent research indicates that there is great hope for additional treatments that address the underlying defect for a larger percentage of the CF population. Today, in addition to fueling science, we are funding and supporting care and patient services programs including a patient assistance program, a legal hotline and more. Volunteers Are Key The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is unique because of the commitment and dedication of its volunteers. We deeply appreciate all the volunteers and participants who are making an incredible difference in the fight against CF. In addition to their gifts of time, talent, compassion and money, we request their help in telling the story about what we do and the community services that we provide. Communicating about and encouraging access to all of the patient programs and services offered by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will enable us to better serve all those affected by CF and educate them about the difference we are making. Other Ways to Get Involved Advocacy. Advocacy is an important way to make a difference in the lives of people with CF. There are many ways for volunteers to get involved, from sending a quick message to elected officials to joining others passionate about the CF cause in meetings with members of Congress. More information is available at www.cff.org/GetInvolved/Advocate Visit us at: www.cff.org/jaxtailgate Important Note on Attendance at Foundation Events: To reduce the risk of getting and spreading germs at CF Foundation-sponsored events, we ask that everyone follow basic best practices by regularly cleaning your hands with soap and water or with an alcoholbased hand gel, covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your inner elbow and maintaining a safe 6-foot distance from anyone with a cold or infection. Medical evidence shows that germs may spread among people with CF through direct and indirect contact, as well as through droplets that travel short distances when a person coughs or sneezes. These germs can lead to worsening symptoms and speed decline in lung function. To further help reduce the risk of cross-infection, the Foundation’s attendance policy recommends inviting only one person with CF to an indoor Foundation-sponsored event at a specific time. Quick Facts about CF In the United States: About 1,000 new cases of CF are diagnosed each year. More than 75 percent of people with CF are diagnosed by age 2. Nearly half of the CF population is age 18 or older. Sponsorship Form Please take a moment to complete this sponsorship form. Your contribution assists us in “adding tomorrows”.
