This Is What Jr. High Is Doing
the Week of Feb. 27-March 3
 Tues. Feb. 28- Wear a Mardi Gras shirt with jeans or uniform
bottom.
 Wed. March 1-Ash Wednesday with Mass at 8:15 a.m.
 Thurs. March 2-Go Texas Day. Wear western attire with jeans or
uniform bottoms. All students will be served a complimentary
hot dog lunch and Popsicle in the Cat Café.
7th Grade
English: Students will review the first seven lessons in Unit 5 Punctuation &
Capitalization. They will take a practice test on Wednesday and a take a test over
lessons 1-7 on Thursday, March 2.
Literature: Students will continue reading another story by O. Henry.
Characterization, plot, setting, and theme will be identified and discussed. The
test over the author O. Henry and his two short stories read in class (“After
Twenty Years” & “A Retrieved Reformation”) will be Friday, March 3.
*AR is due on Monday, March 6. Students should be bringing an AR book to school & class every day, or
they can be reading on their iPads/electronic readers. They are able to read in class when finished with
classwork.
Religion: 7th grade will review the history of Ash Wednesday. We will continue to
explore the meaning of the Beatitudes and how living them can lead to a life of
happiness.
*Mrs. Renee Wood, diocesan counselor, will be visiting all classes on Tuesday, Feb.
28. Catholic Relief Services rice bowls will be handed out on Monday, Feb. 28.
Science: 7th grade science will be observing cognitive behavior of animals on PBS
Nova Science Now. We will then begin our study of the human body with the
skeletal system.
Math: 7th grade math- Students will have an exam on Monday over Module 8 and
then begin Module 9.
Pre-algebra- We will continue our study of equations and inequalities.
History: We will continue our study of the oil industry in Texas. There will be a
test over this chapter on Friday, March 3.
8th Grade
English: Students will have their Vocabulary Workshop Unit 12 exercises due on
Monday, Feb. 27. The test date for this unit is Friday, March 3. Students will
review Unit 4 Modifiers on Monday, Feb. 27 and have the test on Tuesday, Feb.
28. This is a change from last week to this week due to the pep rally on Friday.
Literature: Classes will continue the study of Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry’s
characters, setting, plot, conflict, figurative language, etc. Completion of reading
and highlighting of Ch. 7 and 8 is due on Monday, Feb. 27.

classwork.
Religion: 8th grade will review the history of Ash Wednesday. We will continue to
explore the reasons for the Great Schism and its effect on the Church today.

Science: 8th grade science will watch parts 2 & 3 of PBS Nova’s “Hunting the
Elements.” We will then begin learning how to balance chemical equations.
Math: Pre-algebra- We will continue our study of equations and inequalities.
Algebra-We will have an exam over 8.1-8.4 “Exponents” and 9.1-9.2
“Polynomials” on Tuesday. We will then go back over chapter 5 for review.
History: We will have an open book quiz over Chapter 14 on Monday. This will
count as two classwork grades. We will begin Chapter 15 on Tuesday and look at
reforms made in the early to mid-1800s including the abolitionist movement.
