Davis, Masopust Take Run For A Cure Laurels;
Thanksgiving Race Attracts A Record Turnout
ROXBURY – A New Milford High School sophomore and a former rower at the
University of Connecticut were the overall champions in the 13th annual
Roxbury Run For A Cure, which collectively raised $2,558 for three charities.
Stosh Davis, a member of the New Milford High School cross country team, was
the overall winner with a time of 17-minutes, 20-seconds on the 3.0-mile
course, which started and finished near the Roxbury Congregational Church.
Leah Masopust, 25, who competed in rowing for the Huskies, was the first
female finisher and placed 20th overall in a record field of 195 finishers. She was
clocked in 20:17 during the annual Thanksgiving Day event. Her sister, Alison
Masopust, 29, placed 21st, just two seconds behind her.
The turnout far exceeded the 169 finishers from 2012.
The $2,558 in proceeds will go to the cancer center at New Milford Hospital, the
American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life’s Shepaug Valley chapter and to
purchase a new digital stopwatch for the weekly Roxbury Road Race Series.
The runners in the series, the church and the Roxbury Recreation Commission
co-sponsored the event.
They thank the members of the Roxbury Fire Department for assisting with
traffic control.
