Brotherhood
By D. Woo
!
On a mountain, there lived three little deer brothers who
tried to build they own house. A lion wanted to eat those
three little deers but then he noticed something different
about the deers’ behaviour. Let’s see how the lion changed
his mind.
One day the three little deers decided that it was time to
be independent from their parents. So they needed a
house for each one of them. The youngest deer asked,
“How are you building your house?” The oldest deer said,
“It is too boring to build a house. I want to rest. I will build
a house made of dirt. It will not take long and is also very
easy to make.”
!
The second deer brother said, “Look around! There are a
lot of trees. I want to make a big house. So I will use
wood.”
At last the youngest deer said, “ The house must be strong.
Therefore I will use bricks to build my house.” The three
deers separated and started to collect materials.
The oldest deer started to collect dirt and built his house
very quickly and then he went to sleep. The second deer
also started to collect branches. He found many branches
because he was in the mountains. With the help of his
friends, he built his house quickly. Finally, the youngest
deer started to collect left over bricks. But it is not easy to
collect. So he asked his brothers for bricks. He knocked on
the door of his oldest deer brother’s house. “Excuse me,
Brother! I am your youngest deer brother. Please open the
door.” But his oldest brother did not respond. He goes to
his second brother’s house. “Hello? Hello! Why? It is too
hard for me to build a house. So could you help....” The
second brother interrupts him. “Sorry. I am busy now.”
Then the second brother closed door.
!
The youngest deer was so sad and disappointed with his
brothers. So he started to build his house alone. A few
minutes later, at night, a lion walked around the youngest
deer’s house. The lion asked the deer, “May I help you?”
The youngest deer answered, “Are you serious?” The lion
said, “Yes. I am very serious.”
!
“I know that a lion wants to eat deers.”
!
The lion said to the deer. “I know some place that you can
collect your materials.” They went to the dumping ground.
And they collected materials. There are many useful materials there at the dumping ground. The deer thinks, “People are too wasteful. Look at this rubbish. All looks so
new.” And then they start building at the break of day. A
lion is very strong. So they finished building the house in
the same morning.
In the youngest deer’s house, the deer held a party to
thank the lion for his help. He invited his brothers to the
party. As soon as they entered the house, they are surprised because they know that the lion is harmful to deers.
They picked a knife, and they tried to fight. “Stop it! That
lion helped me build my house. He is my friend now. Why
are you trying to kill him?” The oldest brother said. “The
lion is not our friend. We must run away from lions.” But
youngest deer says. “All lions are not bad? No! He has just
helped me. If that lion is bad, you are very bad. Even you
did not help me. If you want to kill that lion, you must kill
me first.”
!
The lion felt very sorry that he wanted to eat him and was
very touched by the behaviour of the youngest deer. Suddenly the oldest deer screams, “Watch out! Look at outside! A huge plane is falling on the youngest deer’s house.”
!
All animals start to go outside but the youngest deer sat on
the carpet. The two brothers quickly ran away. The lion
went into the house, and he brought the youngest deer to
a safe place. Three seconds later the plane crashed into a
tree as well as the house and blew it up.
!
After ten hours, the youngest dear woke up at second
brother’s house and he asked his brothers. “Where is the
lion?” The oldest brother said, “He left this place and he
promised that he will never come back to this place
again.”
!
There was a moment of silence, then the second brother
said, “I am sorry. I…No, We are sorry.”
!
“No, that’s ok, because we are fine now.” The youngest
deer smiled at his brothers. The three little deer brothers
all smiled at each other.
