18/U Girls National Club Championships Wednesday 12

Hi all
Exciting times ahead with U14 and U18 National Club Championships rapidly approaching.
The kids have been training furiously to be ready for the competition and are doing brilliantly.
We are honoured to have such fine young people representing Triton. Team lists and
locations are listed below, and we wish all competitors the very best of luck. Also we thank
parents, coaches, managers for their commitment in getting these kids ready and able. We
know it’s a big job, but a most rewarding job!
We also have the club windup and presentation night coming up on April 2nd. Lock it in, it’s a
great night.
Congratulations to the Triton U14 players who played a game at half time at Saturday’s UWA
Torpedoes National League game. It was a great opportunity and they did us proud. Good
work guys!

Damon Childs
Challenge Cup Men
As yet to win a game, but showing glimpses of a more cohesive unit, especially with our
structures in defence and extra man attack. Will be a good platform going into next season
with the experience and leadership gained by all players in the team. If we have a good offseason in winter we will improve with further advances to our game plan to be rolled out.
(as this newsletter was written, the boys had just defeated the Barbarians in the most
recent Challenge cup game….wooohoooo!)
A Reserve Men
This team, mostly comprising of the 18 Men’s team, is showing a maturity and improvement
that has been exceptional over the season. The ability to learn a variety of game plans, be
flexible to adapt to situations and utilising their pure speed advantage to wear teams down
has been rewarded with quite a few wins over older, stronger and more experienced
opposition. With the rate of improvement displayed this team will be a force to be reckoned
with over the coming years and will form the backbone of our First grade squad going
forward. Currently sitting in fourth position and on track for a probable finals appearance.
18 Mens
The same can be said of this team, as the A reserve team, because they are essentially the
same team!! We have triumphed over ALL UWACB teams during the season which puts us in
fourth position and a probable finals berth should we secure a few more wins toward the end
of the season. Given the team has at least another 1 year together, we are competing very
well against all opposition. Again our strengths are becoming very dangerous and our ability
to play a very team oriented game is helping our ability to adapt to nearly all styles of play we
come up against.
Mark Oberman
Flipper ball
Only 2 weekends left of Flippa ball. A HUGE thankyou to our volunteer coaches (junior and
senior) who have come down and given me a hand throughout our season on Friday nights
and Sunday mornings. It is great to see our club nurturing this program for our up and
coming players.
We end with a parents game and a little wind up on Sunday 19th March and are lucky
enough to have George Ford (2016 Rio Olympian and
Torpedoes National League Player) coming down to help out
on our last Sunday session.

CONGRATULATIONS
To Jamie Oberman for being selected for the Australian B00 Camp to be held
17-21 April in Perth. Congratulations Jamie.
*plus opportunity for additional selected members based on 18's
Championships
To Jayden Horne for representing Bunbury at the recent State Country Championships in
Geraldton, where Bunbury achieved the runners up status with a narrow 1 goal loss to
Geraldton in the final. Jayden had a really good tournament and starred for Bunbury
throughout. Congratulations Jayden.
To Bridgette Ireland who will be inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame and
join the elite as one of the greatest water polo players in the world. The induction will
happen in Florida in August 2017. This is such an amazing achievement and we are proud as
punch of our superstar!
CLUB WIND UP AND AWARDS NIGHT
Looking forward to seeing as many as possible at this event. Short thankyou speeches will be
made and club awards will be presented.
Sunday 2nd April
Oxford Hotel (upstairs), 368 Oxford St, Leederville
$ 15 for Adults , $10 for 18 & U.
5 p.m. start It is for all club members from Juniors upwards.
Nibbly food will be provided and drinks can be purchased.
It would be great if team members could congregate together at award time and that we all
give the presenters and recipients respect by keeping quiet.
SPONSORS AND ORIGINAL PLAYERS THANKYOU
On Saturday the 11th February, we hosted an
afternoon on the new deck, to thank our sponsors
and original Triton members. Many of the original
Triton members set up a trust fund more than 40
years ago for the sole purpose of building a
clubroom.
The afternoon was a great success, getting to know
some of the sponsors and hearing about their business. They seemed to enjoy meeting
members and seeing first-hand what Triton is about, and how we are developing.
It was an historic occasion with having at least 6 of the original Triton A Grade (like Premier
League) players together again. We got a photo of them and another of many Masters
players, some who are even still playing.
A very big thankyou to all people who made it
happen and in particular:
Jen Oberman, Glenn Townsend, Matt
Hoffman, Ian and Anita Putt, Karl and Liz
Perry.
WOULD YOU CARE IF THE CLUB SHUT DOWN?
This may seem like a melodramatic question, but it could be more realistic than you might
think. There was an article in the Sunday Times on the weekend discussing how many
sporting clubs are seriously suffering due to lack of volunteers. There was also a story of a
sporting club which recently disbanded due to lack of volunteers despite several pleas.
Without people willing to give up time and skills for the sake of smooth running of the club, the
club cannot survive.
There are several committee members stepping down at the end of the season and other
club members, heavily productive in the club, who will be relinquishing some of their
responsibilities. Many of them have taken on the responsibility for the activities of the club
for a number of years. These spots need to be filled. There are a huge number of jobs to be
managed. In the next newsletter, we will be detailing positions that need to be filled and
specifying ways that members can help out. Please give serious thought to how you and your
family members may be able to assist.
Even if you aren’t a Facebook fan, get on it just to see the Triton news. It is the most up to
date source of club information.
SPONSORSHIP
A big thankyou to all the sponsors of the Triton Water Polo Club, it certainly helps make
running the club so much easier.
With the sponsorship money it has enabled the club to upgrade the balustrade at the front of
the grandstand (to make it safe), buy another 4 sets of caps and also provide drink bottles to
the majority of members and also erect the sign under the BBQ deck.
Please support the sponsors that support us!! The sponsors are:
Gold Sponsors
PSQ Group
Bendigo Bank
Kalamunda Physiotherapy Centre
Competent Strata Assistance
Silver Sponsors
Field Work Health
Gobsmacked
IGA Glendalough
Algaefree
Bronze Sponsors

WOMEN IN SPORT
We have just had International Women’s Day and Play by the Rules magazine included a
great article discussing Women’s Sport. Check it out. (not convinced about the “green walk
women” but I’ll leave that up to you!!)

Dear Clubs
Please find attached our current, 2017 Grand Final Weekend Schedule.
As per previous years, we have the Senior State League Finals played on the Saturday and the Juniors
are on Sunday.
All games are played at HBF stadium on the first weekend of April.
I know this notification is well in advance but this information could help you to prepare your club
wind up, presentations in advance.
All information will be uploaded to the website as soon as we know the teams qualified to be in the
finals.
As for the semi finals, they are on the same week for the State League Seniors on Wednesday, and on
Monday for the Juniors.
Women's Premier League semi finals are played on the last weekend of March.
Best wishes for the last two months and please remember to talk to your coaches and players in
regards to finals eligibility in the lead up before the end of March.
Also, please make sure that players and club officials are reminded to be respectful towards the
referees and work together with them.

Competition and Development Manager
Triton is set to have a number of teams in the finals, so look out for Facebook posts on when
they are playing and if you can, get down to HBF stadium and support them. We wish all the
teams the best for the finals and thanks ALL teams for a fun and competitive season.
Also, remember the U18s have their Club Championships on at HBF stadium in the holidays
and would love some Triton support.
