student reflect on the story or book after reading.

Example Reading Log Reflection Questions/Activities
Describe the setting of the story.
Would you recommend this book to a friend?
Why or why not?
If you could spend one day with a character,
which one would it be and why?
Why do you think the author wrote this book?
Using the text, illustrate a key scene or
descriptive passage. Write one or two
sentences describing the picture.
Write a letter to the author explaining your
opinion about the story.
What if a different character told the story?
Specify a character and explain what would
change and what would stay the same.
What” pictures” did you get in your mind while
reading?
What are three words in the story that you do
not know? Predict their definition.
How would you feel if you were a character in
the story?
What are three things you learned while
reading this book?

After reading a book with your student, give him/her a choice of responding between a few
sentence stems or reading log questions/activities. Allow your student to share his/her ideas
with you before they write, or discuss their responses afterwards.
