Delving Deeper Here is what Reception will be looking at next week. If you could run through this with your child in preparation, that would enable us to delve even deeper into the learning and ensure your child has a head start! This is not homework. Simply a quick chat with your child. Please help us to get your child excited and invigorated about the learning ahead. If you have any questions, we are here to help after school. Thank you for supporting your child in this way. We have really noticed how much you have been doing at home! Week beginning 27th February 2017 Maths Theme: Writing numerals to 20 and beyond accurately. Task: Can the children write numerals to 20 independently? Are the numbers formed correctly? Questions to ask: What does that number look like? What number comes after 14? What is the highest number you can write up to independently? Can you use a number square (http://www.primarygames.co.uk/pg2/splat/splatsq100.html) to help you practise writing your numbers? Reading (Please remember to read EVERY day and record it in the reading diary.) Theme: The Three Little Pigs Task: Can children read an alternative version of ‘The Three Little Pigs’ or watch them on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m75aEhm-BYw) Questions to ask: Did you enjoy the story? Why did you like it? Were there any parts that you disliked? How was the story different to the original? Which version do you prefer? Phonics: In phonics we are continuing to learn phase 4. We will be learning to read and write CVCC words (consonant-vowel-consonant-consonant) words such as ‘pond’ , ‘damp’, ‘sink’ and ‘sand’ as well as revising all phase 2 and phase 3 sounds found in the homework diaries. Can you practise reading and writing these type of words at home? Can you use sounds buttons to read and write these words? High Frequency Words: Can the children read ‘Set 1’ words stuck in their homework books. These are: is, in, it, at. Can they then write sentences using these words? For example, ‘The owl is brown’. Writing and Communication and Language Theme: Wanted posters Task: Can you create a ‘wanted’ poster for the wolf from ‘The Three Little Pigs’. Questions to ask: Can you create a ‘wanted’ poster for the wolf who blew down the pigs’ houses? Can you write some sentences (or words) describing the character (e.g. he has two big ears, a pointy nose, sharp teeth etc…)? Can you write about the crime he committed (e.g. blew the houses down or being unkind to the pigs)? What else could you do? Physical Development: Can you practise throwing and catching a variety of different sized balls (e.g. football, tennis ball)? What are the key things you need to remember (e.g. keep your eye on the ball, hands the right width apart etc…)? Which was easiest to catch? Why? Expressive Arts and Design: Can you make a handprint pig or a footprint pig ? PSED: Discuss fairness. If one child has 3 toys but another child has 1 toy and is upset then what could be done to make the situation fair? How does someone being unfair make you feel? What should you do if this happens?
