Congregation: For the God who dared to become human meets us in this place. *HYMN OF PRAISE *SONG OF GREETING Learning from Geese Some years ago I was reading about scientists who had studied geese, their actions and their habits. In studying geese the scientists discovered several interesting facts about why geese fly in a "V" formation. First, the shape of the formation reduces the drag force that each bird experiences compared to flying alone. This allows less fatigue and the ability to fly a greater distance (studies have shown that a flock of 25 birds in formation can fly as much as 70% further than a solo bird using the same amount of energy). Praise to the Lord, the Almighty 139 The Apostles’ Creed 881 *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH THOMASVILLE, GA 31799 Second Sunday of Easter - White April 10, 2016 NON-PROFIT U.S. POSTAGE PA I D PERMIT NO. 1 Traditional Order of Worship Second, the birds take turns (rotate) being in front, falling back when they get tired. Third, the "V" formation makes it easy for the geese to keep visual and communication contact within the group. Surely the Presence of the Lord PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER Fourth, when a goose gets sick or is wounded by gunshot, and falls out of formation, two geese fall out and follow it down to help and protect him. They stay with the fallen goose until either it is able to fly or until it is dead, then they launch out on their own or with another formation until they catch up with their group. CHORAL PRAYER RESPONSE CHILDREN’S MOMENT *HYMN OF PREPARATION OFFERTORY *DOXOLOGY ANTHEM In the Garden More Like the Master Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow You are Mine Maddie and Heidi Pelkey, Duet 314 C. Gabriel The Church has much to learn from the geese. We can accomplish so much more when we work together and support one another than when we go it alone. God has not called us to be "Lone Rangers", but the body of Christ. Each part of the body is to care about the other parts of the body. Together, with the Lord's help, we can accomplish remarkable things for his kingdom. 95 Haas *HYMN OF COMMITMENT To God Be the Glory 98 *BENEDICTION CHORAL AMEN POSTLUDE There Is Glory in My Soul *Let those who are able, please stand.
