MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL – Sr Marlene Chedid
We have had great events happening including the Voice of Charity Concert where out students’
performances were outstanding. Well done to the staff and students involved. We had a Mothers’ day
Mass which was well attended. NAPLAN was undertaken and we hope each student has put in a great
effort. Yr 8 were on camp learning new skills while Yr 9 had a reflection day. Plenty more is heading our
way over the next few weeks. I thank the many staff and parents who contribute to the extra curricula
activities at our College. Don’t forget our 40 year Mass this Wednesday. All are invited and I thank every
person who has contributed in any way.

Voice of Charity Concert - The Secondary choir and Yr 11 Drama students were involved in the Voice of
Charity Concert that was held at Parramatta Riverside Theatre on the 6th and 8th May. It was a wonderful
opportunity for our students to experience performing in a professional theatre in front of paid
audiences. The concert was all about Jesus and our students and Ms Gebrael blew away the audience
with their rendition of ‘I Surrender’ by Celine Dion. The Drama students were spectacular in their
performance of ‘God Against Temptation’ play. Thank you to Mr AbouGharrach and Ms Gebrael for their
assistance in the concert. - Ms Youssef

Walk Safety to School Day - Join us on 24th May from 8-11am to promote this important safety event.
The organisers of Walk safely to school day were so impressed with the organisation of our event that they
invited Mr Geoff Lee MP Member for Parramatta to be present, and he has accepted.
Spare Clothes - Occasionally accidents occur and students need a change of clothes. Please put a spare
pair of shorts/track pants, a T-shirt and clean underwear in a plastic bag in your child’s school bag.
Aria Music - Aria Music offers group guitar and keyboard lessons at OLOL. Instruments and activities are
provided for the lessons. Classes are small (up to 5 children) for half an hour. The lessons run during
breaks, on Tues, Wed and Fri. Fee is $19.50/wk. We are also seeking expressions of interest for a singing
class ($19.50/wk), and for a group violin class ($22/wk, max of 3 children in the class). If your child would
like to learn any of these instruments, contact [email protected], or call 0402 780 130. Aria

College Canteen - will only provide heating services and plastic cutlery for items purchased.
Woolworths earn and learn – bring in your stamps to the College each time you shop at Woolworths
Assessing Student Achievement - Along with increased media interest over NAPLAN and the MySchool
website it is becoming obvious that students are under increasing pressure to perform during
assessments. The assessment process used by our College is ongoing throughout the year to capture the
students’ continuous development. We ask that parents maintain a reassuring approach to their child’s
studies, so that the children remain calm and perform to the best of their abilities. Please make an
appointment to speak to your child’s teacher if there are any concerns regarding your child’s progress.

PARENTS’ NEWS
Dear Parents/Guardians, every student in Secondary should have received a copy of the Curriculum
Policy which was sent to their child’s College email. Please ask your son/daughter to download the policy
and read it with them so you are aware of the responsibilities and procedures. The link for Adobe Reader
is: http://get.adobe.com/reader/ - Mr J Messiha.
Mothers’ Day - Thank you to all who participated in the
Mothers’ day stall. It was a huge success, raising close to
$2,500. This money will be spent on resources to enrich
our children's lives at the College. The best part of the
day for me was watching the children choose a gift for
their special mums and grandmothers and walking away
very proud of themselves. It was such a pleasure to be
part of this fantastic fund raiser and social event. I urge all
parents who have time to join the PA. It's very rewarding
and you get to meet the wonderful teachers and other parents. - Rita Saade: Chairperson.
Annual General meeting including elections on Thursday 23rd May at 2:00pm for the Parent
