Children’s Music News Notes from the Director The Children’s Choirs at St. Michael’s are off and running. I am impressed with how well each group is already coming together. I look forward to the upcoming months to see how everyone continues to grow musically. We are always looking for additional singers to join Celebration Singers and Spirit Choir. These choirs make their debut in services on October 11th. This month, I encourage all current singers to invite someone else to join us for choir rehearsals. Weekly attendance is not necessary, but certainly helps build a sense of community and improves musical skills. Plus, we always have a great time! The Youth Bells are working on learning ringing techniques and have begun ringing a few anthems. It is exciting to see how quickly this group is mastering the techniques of bell ringing. More ringers are always welcome. We are looking forward to October 4th, our first opportunity to ring for a worship service. October 2009 (not just the priest and choir), that words of the service should be in the native language rather than in Latin, that prayer should be directed to God and that music is a gift of God. “Next to the Word of God, music deserves the highest praise.” ~Martin Luther Church Music Trivia Last month’s answer: Part of Anna B. The color of the day is red. In 1517 Martin Luther nailed 95 theses (or complaints) against the Roman Catholic Church to a church door in Wittenburg, Germany. One of Luther’s main themes questioned the act of selling indulgences, believing that paying for forgiveness went against church teachings. He also believed that doing good works and confessing sins did not earn salvation. Rather, Luther preached that salvation was brought to us through faith and by God’s grace. Luther also believed that all people should sing the service (Reformation /Confirmation) (Christ the King) Wed., Nov 25 Thanksgiving Eve Service 7:00 p.m. – Celebration Singers and Spirit Choir Sun., Dec 6 8:45 11:00 Spirit Choir Youth Bells Celebration Singers Youth Bells Sun., Dec 20 8:45 11:00 Thur., Dec 24 Christmas Eve Service 4:30 p.m. Celebration Singers, Spirit Choir, Youth Bells Cory Bock ~ Director of Children’s Music St. Michael’s Lutheran Church 1660 West County Road B ~ Roseville, MN 55113 651-631-1510 (Church) ~ www.stmichaelselca.com 612-978-2624 ~ [email protected] Celebration Singers Spirit Choir
