Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock Holmes is the world’s most famous detective. Together with his friend Dr. Watson, Holmes
lived in a flat in 221 B Baker Street, London. Sherlock Holmes had known Dr. Watson- a police officer,
who loved fishing- for 15 years. They had met in a train and they were best friends. Dr. Watson was
never married and he had no children, but he had a dog called Charlie. Charlie was more important1
to Dr. Watson than anything else in the world. Sherlock Holmes was a very tall man –over six feet2and so thin3 that he looked even taller. But he was not beautiful or anything like that. He wasn’t even
married. He once fell in love with a beautiful young woman, called Lola, but Lola married someone
else. His hobbies were reading, smoking4 a pipe5 and playing the violin6, but his job was looking for
criminals7. When he tried to find one, he watched everybody and everything very carefully and after
some time he always found the person he was looking for, because he was a really clever. In his most
famous case8, Holmes had to go to Dartmoor in the west of England. In 1786, Sir Hugo Baskerville
was killed in the moor9 and since that time the Baskervilles knew that they mustn’t go to the moor at
night. Years later, after another person Sir Charles was killed by a huge black dog, Sherlock Holmes
was called. Sherlock Holmes was very frightened10 there because a terrible dog howled11 loudly12
every night. But after some time Holmes found out that the killer13 was not the dog but a man who
called himself Stapleton.
