Routes Serving Commonwealth and Stops
Pennsylvania is served by 72 daily Amtrak trains
running enroute through the Northeast Corridor. These trains,
which include Metroliner service to Washington, D.C. and New York
City, stop at the North Philadelphia and 30th Street stations in
Philadelphia.
Amtrak also operates 26 trains daily between
Philadelphia and Harrisburg serving the following stops:

Harrisburg
Pennsylvania is also served by the following Amtrak

Current and Pending 403(b) Service
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania currently underwrites
the operation of 19 trains a week between Philadelphia and th is
Harrisburg. The total amount contributed by the Commonweal
$175,000; Amtrak provides the same amount.
Pennsylvania has requested additional 403(b) service
which is presently under review. Specifically, the Commonwealth
has requested round trip weekend service between Hobokeniaandand
Scranton and daily round trip service between Philadelph
Pittsburgh.
Under the provisions of the Amtrak Reorganization Act,
such service would be funded on the 80/20 matching share in its
first year of operation. The Commonwealth would contribute
$225,000 for the Scranton-Hoboken service and $510,000 for shared
Philadelphia-Pittsburgh service. Capital costs are equally

Schedule and Service Improvements
In 1979, Amtrak introduced 34 fully rebuilt Metroliners
to hourly New York-Washington service. The Broadway Limited will
receive newly rebuilt head end power (HEP) equipment in mid-1980.

In October, the eastbound schedule of the Broadway Limit
changed to four hours later in order to provide overnight service
between Chicago and Pittsburgh and daytime service between
Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, New York and Washington.
Capital Improvements
Amtrak invested substantial funds into various projects
in Pennsylvania during 1979. Two million dollars were invested in
track improvement on the Philadelphia-Harrisburg line. In code

violations at the train station. Another $80,000 was spent for
