Hi, my name is Alison. I only work in the borough of Greenwich. I have supported and cared for many people throughout my life. I am naturally a caring person who is more than willing to help. I have constantly cared for someone for as far back as I can remember. My mum had Parkinson’s and cancer which affected her vision and speech, my brother has bi polar disorder and my younger brother has post-traumatic stress disorder. My nephews also have ADHD so as you can tell I have quite a lot of experiences dealing with a range of disabilities. For four years I worked as a volunteer for Home start which is an organisation for people with children under 5. The main role was to make sure I gave emotional support and respite when needed. Although it was traumatic at times I absolutely loved the job and I got to meet a lot of different people. I remember one mother who spoke no English and as I spoke no French you might have thought this would be a problem but all we did was laugh. Saying that her two and a half son spoke French and English so was there to translate when needed. I volunteered for Oxleas Mental Health Trust for two and half years in a shop in the mental health department which I really enjoyed. I met so many different characters which some people may have found frightening, though I felt at home! I have also done voluntary work supporting a neighbour to manage her day to day affairs. I have paid work experience within the care sector working as a Personal Assistant with an individual who had challenging care needs. These experiences have helped me gain the attributes of being understanding, patient, compromising, down to earth, conscientious and with a good sense of humour but able to be professional at the time. I am an employee of South Thames Carers Support Scheme which is part of Greenwich Carers Centre, a registered Charity and regulated by the Care Quality Commission (www.cqc.org.uk/directory/1-590111721). By booking me you are entitled to a user handbook which is available by emailing [email protected] or calling Sharon on 0208 102 9642 I am unable to currently unable to administer medication. My current rate will be £14 per hour and payable from invoices sent by Greenwich Carers Centre. Despite the photo I am not the biggest football fan so you may be a bit disappointed if you want a long conversation about the latest football signings. If you have any questions about Arsenal I can get back to you as my son is a big fan! Boxing is more my thing as well as Rugby as they tend to get up a bit quicker than the footballers so are real men! I work for South Thames Carers Support. I am 34 years old and a mother to three beautiful children. Over the last few years I have been working in the field of social care. Having an interest in the welfare of people has always been my priority. I am a support worker and have a degree in psychosocial studies, both of which have made me more aware about vulnerable people in society. I chose to be a support worker because I get immerse satisfaction from helping those in need. I am a hardworking, willing lady with a friendly nature, who is motivated by challenges and enjoys embracing new experiences. Travelling to London and settling here for over ten years broadened my perspective on life. This experience provided me with an excellent opportunity to be independent, confident and self-motivated. I enjoy meeting a wide range of people and learning about different cultures and traditions. I did volunteering work a few years ago, caring for the elderly and young adults with different health challenges, and connecting with vulnerable children and adults from diverse races and backgrounds. My job was closely involved with people’s lives and included taking my clients out shopping or to hospital appointments and caring for them according to their needs. My job also involved writing reports. My work experience with the youth, elderly people and children was very valuable and a great privilege for me. I learned caring and patience, as well as how to work as a team member, listen and manage my time responsibly. I also had to work effectively under pressure, meet new people and develop my organisational skills. The experience I gained showed me how to communicate effectively with my clients and be confident and sensitive to their needs, and also to keep their confidentiality and to work on my own initiative. I am currently working as a support. I help my clients with their personal hygiene, care for them according to their different needs and help to promote their independence and gain back their confidence. From all these experiences I now have a real understanding and practical knowledge of the challenges of nursing. My experiences have also widened my understanding about the sense of satisfaction there in caring for humanity and supporting people with different health conditions, by helping them to live a normal life and achieve a steadiness in their daily life, whilst maintaining their dignity as human beings. I know that deep within me lies a great level of compassionate care and support waiting to unleash and that is why I chose to become a support worker, and use this opportunity to provide my full dedicated care and support to those who need it most. I feel that I am a highly motivated person and therefore feel that ‘everyone and anyone’ can do anything, no matter how difficult it may be or seem; we just have to try it, learn it, challenge it, explore it, express it, then do it. I am very quiet person, but highly likeable. I know that I am willing, able and capable of giving a great level of heart melting compassionate care and support, with an added touch of happiness and smiles. In return I gain my own touch of happiness and smiles knowing I had done a great job. I know that the inner me and the inner abilities within me can leave smiles on someone's face, no matter what difficulties they might be facing, whether it's just a friendly chat, creativity, games or simple jokes. I am a young and bubbly 59 year old and have been with my husband Michael for 33 years. We have been married 29 years in June and have 2 grown up children - Steven and Emma. I am a caring individual, who is very understanding and compassionate. I am a good listener and have a lot of patience and will give 100% in anything I am asked to do. My time keeping is excellent - I am never late, if someone asks me to do something or go somewhere and I say yes I will always do it and always turn up. I like to talk to people most of the time to get to know them, but sometimes it’s just because am nosey! I’ve been in retail most of my working life, but last year I gave up my job because my mother in law was diagnosed with dementia. My sister in law is her main carer, and it has hit us very hard, especially now that my older sister has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Her husband is her main carer, but I would like to be there if at any time they need a break. I like to socialise with family and friends. I come from a large close knit family, so we are always having a get together for someone’s birthday or if someone is having another baby. I also like going out with my friends. We like to go for coffee and a chat. In my spare time and when I am on my own I like to read and knit - but I am not very good! I also like to crochet, which I am good at. I like playing cards and going to bingo. I will put my hand to anything within reason, I am not saying I be good at it but will give it a go. Who says you can't show an old dog new tricks!! I've worked within the care sector for around 11 years now. Originally my future was destined for rugby stardom. But unfortunately, a nasty injury in my teens ended that hope prematurely and I gave up the professional route of sport. After volunteering at a local scheme where I lived, I was lucky enough to be put forward for one of Bromley Council's after school club teams. I worked at various clubs over the borough in places such as Mottingham, Chislehurst and St Mary Cray for around 7 years. However, I wanted to try varied types of care and was particularly attracted to working with autistic children and young people. My current job was transferred from the council to a charity and so now I was working for Bromley Council again, this time as an Outreach Worker, with the aims to promote independence and confidence within the children on the autistic spectrum. My love for rugby has never left. I play more socially these days, but my knowledge over 20 years has led to me coaching from young children to fully grown adults. I also aspire to keep fit now I'm the wrong side of 30 and it gets harder now! I’m always in the gym or swimming lengths in the pool. I visit the cinema too, so much so I would consider myself somewhat a critic! But honestly, I love films and have time for any genre.
