Meet Shelley Bell, Certified Laughter Yoga leader and Teacher
Shelley Bell is a Certified Laughter Yoga Leader and Certified Laughter Yoga Teacher. She has
been leading her Laughter Club in Northridge since July 2011. She trains people to become Certified
Laughter Yoga Leaders in the Dr. Kataria School of Laughter Yoga and does Laughter Yoga
presentations for various groups throughout the Los Angeles and surrounding areas. She is also a
Certified Holistic Health Coach.
The Sherman Oaks Parkinson’s Support Group has invited Ms. Bell to demonstrate the benefits of
laughter yoga for PD at their January 28th meeting. Participate in a fun session and learn about how
and why laughter releases a tremendous amount of endorphins, your body’s natural painkillers.
According to studies, one hour of laughter can relieve a person of pain for about an hour without
taking painkillers. Laughter drives all negative thoughts and ill feelings away because of the feelgood hormones that it releases and it boosts the immune system, too!
Laughter Yoga is a unique concept where anyone can laugh for no reason and without relying on
humor, jokes or comedy. It combines laughter exercises with yoga breathing. Its core premise is that
your body knows how to laugh, regardless of what your mind has to say. Laughter Yoga is a bodymind approach to laughter inviting you to fake it until it becomes real because, if done with
willingness, you get the same physiological and psychological benefits.
