Dear Expectant Mother, We can only imagine the emotions that you are feeling and are truly touched by your selflessness and bravery as you go through the adoption process. Mike and I are honored that you are taking the time to read more about us as and our aspiration to be loving, nurturing and doting fathers. Our hope is that as you learn more about our love for each other, and family and friends, we can show you the dedicated parents we will be. Our home is one that is filled with affection, laughter and devotion to one another. Since meeting six years ago it has always been clear that we saw ourselves being parents one day. After getting married, we made it our priority to begin the adoption journey and introduce a child into our family. We look forward to further fulfilling our lives, along with that of a child, through creating a strong supportive household and a lifetime of beautiful memories. We couldn’t be more humbled that you are considering us as parents for your precious baby. Respectfully yours, Chris & Mike Mike and I met in 2009 and were quickly drawn to each other. In our search for love, we both had grown frustrated by coming across men that showed a reluctance to settle down and enter into a committed relationship. After seeing the devotion that we each had for our loved ones and our similar passions, we soon fell in love and began to build a life together. After dating for four years, Mike proposed to me in San Francisco and we were married in October 2014. Our wedding celebration was easily the best day of our lives. It was made special by our family and friends being together to celebrate our commitment to each other and the union of our two families that was created through our vows. We look forward to introducing a child into our lives, and through doing so creating a family filled with a lifetime of joyous memories. I grew up in a suburb of Boston to supportive parents who taught me the importance of acceptance and compassion. Growing up as an only child, my parents and I were very close and open with one another. Through family dinners, vacations and holidays, our thoughts and feelings were always shared freely. Some of the most valuable gifts that my parents passed on to me were to show me the importance of having insight into ones emotions along with providing me with a home filled with heart and laughter. After graduating from the George Washington University in Washington D.C. with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, I returned to Massachusetts and began working in healthcare and the human services. After spending several successful years working in the recruitment industry, I moved on to a more robust human resources position at a community health center, where I work presently. I quickly experienced advancement within the health center due to my drive and passion for healthcare, and after two years accepted the position of Human Resources Director. I love that I am given the opportunity to enrich employees ‘ work lives on a daily basis, and assist individuals in reaching their true potential professionally. Mike was raised in a city in southern Massachusetts and grew up in a loving bilingual Portuguese household. His parents, who immigrated to the US from the Azores, instilled in Mike a strong work ethic and taught him the importance of loyalty and empathy. At the age of ten, Mike’s brothers were born and he naturally stepped into being a caregiver and role model for his younger siblings. Mike earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the College of the Holy Cross and a Law Degree from Northeastern University. After graduating, he became the Assistant DA for a city close to where he had grown up then later pursued a career in family law. For the past eleven years he has worked at a prominent Boston law firm and recently was named Partner. Mike’s ability to compassionately counsel individuals and successfully guide them through the legal system has earned him the title of rising star within the legal community. His prominence within Boston’s legal community has given him the opportunity to serve on the board of directors for his former law school and the GLBTQ Bar Association, and has allowed him to provide mentorship to many newly appointed lawyers. Don’t let the picture of Ziggy deceive you, this cat is 100% canine. Ziggy is an exceptionally affectionate and gentle cat who loves being around people. Some of his hobbies include playing fetch, curling up with us on the couch, and begging for food whenever possible. He is so loved by our friends and family that a Facebook page has been setup in his honor, and when his birthday comes around his newsfeed is filled with well wishes. While Mike enjoys the gym and exercising, I prefer to break open a book or try out a new recipe. In addition to these hobbies we have many similar passions. We enjoy immersing ourselves in other cultures by traveling the state, country and world, and have an appetite for exploring new points of view and philosophies. Along with travel, Mike and I have a passion for the arts. We frequently attend the theater and go to art exhibits. We have both spent time performing in the past, so love to fill the home and car with the sound of our singing – for better or for worse. Both of us are extremely fortunate to have been raised by incredible parents, and for having a large extended family that live locally and remain involved in our lives. The holidays are always spent with family and involve an overwhelming amount of traditional American and Portuguese cuisine. Mike’s father is the cook in the family and spends hours in the kitchen preparing recipes that have been passed down through the generations. Additionally, we consider our close friends to be extended family. We both have been privileged to take part in several weddings. Mike is the Godfather to two beautiful children, and we regularly have “family dinner” with friends who have been an integral part of our lives for years. Whether we are in the kitchen entertaining or visiting someone’s home, friends, their children and even family pets are gathered together celebrating bonds that have been years in the making. Mike and I live in a quiet and accepting community in Boston that is filled with many young families and a great amount of diversity. We own a spacious condominium that is a short walk to beautiful parks, museums and a thriving town center. Many of our neighbors, who are close friends of ours, have children so our home is frequently filled with the sound of children’s laughter and the pitter patter of feet. We frequently spend time taking a leisurely walk around downtown shops, visiting dog parks with friends, or taking a jog around a local pond or arboretum. Mike and I enjoy having a home that is filled with life and loved ones so frequently have dinner parties and entertain. The heart of our home is the kitchen and we love spending time preparing meals for ourselves along with friends and family who have stopped by. We are truly thankful that you have taken the time to read about our lives, home and community. Even if you choose to take another path with your child, we hope that we have impressed upon you how loving a home we would create for your child and how committed Mike and I are to be nurturing fathers. We wish you all the best as you move forward with making such an important decision, and hope that you give us an opportunity to learn about you and answer any questions that you may have. Sincerely yours, Chris & Mike
