Within the field of Environmental Activities, geology is a key element,
given that it is the medium in which all ecosystems develop, and where
the principal impacts relating to human activity take place.
The GEOLAND SERVICES technical team has taken part is geological
characterization studies aimed at the analysis of ecosystems (LICs
(Places of Autonomous Regional Interest) and ZEPAs (Special Birdlife
Protection Zones) and contamination assessment.

of most of the surface of Spain.

The main fields in which the GEOLAND SERVICES technical team has undertaken studies and projects are:
• Research into and characterisation of subterranean water: classic characterization studies, inventory and
updating of resources, sensu stricto hydrogeological studies.
• Hydrogeological studies applied to civil engineering, wherever subterranean water may be affected by
works, or represent a risk for the works themselves. This is the case for where highways and high speed
trains are routed underground, for tunnels and for construction, etc.
• Hydrogeological studies relating to mining activity, both because of the
impact of the mining on the environment and because of the problems
for mineral extraction caused by water.

The GEOLAND SERVICES tehcnical team has advanced techniques as its disposal for the mathematical
simulation of the complex functioning of subterranean water, with a great number of developed models
available.
It also designs and prepares new tools enabling the
processing of the information and its adaptation to the

As well as developing utilites and computerised applications, the GEOLAND SERVICES technical team has wide
experience in developing numerical simulation models of subterranean water flow, targeting:
• The solution of problems relating to Civil Engineering, normally relating to interference between the works

and subterranean water, whether it is to look for a solution or as a preventive measure.
Simulation of the flow of subterranean water in places where there is a great deal of geological and
hydrogeological information, and where functioning assessment is not an easy task.
Simulation of hypothetical situations which enable control of undesirable situations (over-exploitation,
intrusion, drought, etc.) and performance of corrective measures.
Search for potential new hydro resources and zones where intensification of research is called for.
Back up for the management and planning of resources, for their use in decision taking on the part of the
Bodies concerned.
The simulations are carried out with the aid of tools based on methods of finite differences and finite
elements.
