Big Lake JO Volleyball 2016-2017!!! Parent Informational Meeting October 27th, 2016 Our mission is to develop and grow volleyball skills in our girls in grades 4th through 11th grade ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ Develop personal responsibility Time management Skills Working as a team to accomplish a goal What it takes to be a good teammate How to handle success and adversity in positive ways ◦ How to communicate effectively with adults and peers Welcome! What is our mission? All JO volleyball programs operate nationally under USA Volleyball There are numerous regions We are in the North Country Region There are those of us who love the sport and want to offer a program in the Big Lake area! How does Big Lake JO exist? What programs we offer Requirements for the girls Tryouts Costs Fundraising Contact Information What will we cover tonight? We offer teams for girls in grades 4 through 11 We offer as many teams as we reasonably can (court, space, coaching limitations) We have not had to cut any girls in grades 8 and below (may have to for grades 911) Girls can play on their grade team or A HIGHER grade team (not lower) ◦ Specific to NCR Volleyball What programs do we offer? Change for 2016-2017 ◦ We will only be offering our “competitive” program going forward for grades 6-11 Practice twice per week Skills night on Wednesdays (not required) What programs do we offer? Competitive Teams (Blue) Practice 2x per week (Sundays, Wednesdays, Thursdays are our practice nights for this year) 7-9 competitions, with 1-2 overnight trips (President’s Day is one) Focus on TEAM SUCCESS - Playing time will not be equal (this will be more prevalent on older teams) What programs do we offer? Tryouts will be held on Sunday, November 13th ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ Grades 4-6 will be from 12:00 – 1:00pm Grades 7-8 will be from 1:00 – 2:30pm Grades 9-11 will be from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. It’s possible that some girls in an earlier tryout time may be asked to stay a little longer to be evaluated for a higher team. ◦ Team placement will be posted on our JO volleyball website Sunday evening. Tryouts Sunday, November 13th What do the girls need to tryout? ◦ ALL paperwork must be turned in, and filled out COMPLETELY in order for your child to tryout (this may be online this year…check the FB page for info in November!) NCR/USAV form Health Form Big Lake Code of Conduct signed ◦ $75 volunteer check per player, with the player’s full name in the comment line ◦ $100 tryout fee (this gets applied to your volleyball registration fee). ◦ Parent contact information filled out online ◦ If this is not complete, the player will not be able to enter the gym Tryouts Sunday, November 13th A couple of comments on the $75 check… ◦ The check is never cashed UNLESS 1. The player is placed on a team and “quits” 2. The family doesn’t fulfill the volunteer requirement (discussed later) ◦ If a player is cut, the check is returned ◦ In the memo, write your child’s full name ◦ If you don’t want your check handed back, write “shred” in the memo line as well Tryouts Sunday, November 13th Once you are informed what team your daughter makes… We have a MANDATORY meeting that a PARENT and the PLAYER MUST ATTEND on Wednesday, November 16th ◦ Times will be specific to teams, and will be posted after tryouts on the Facebook page. They will be between 6:00 and 9:00pm (your meeting will be 1 hour) ◦ It is CRITICALLY important that you attend this meeting. ◦ Missing the meeting will put your daughter’s placement on a team AT RISK Mandatory parent and player meeting, Wednesday Nov 16th Why is it SO important? ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ Fees will be collected Clothing will be ordered You will meet your coach You will be able to share potential conflicts with the coach for tournament scheduling We will cover the Code of Conduct We will cover how players will complete the Officiating Clinics We will collect fundraising materials We will double-check jersey #s on the team, since we cannot have any repeat #s Plus, Brust and Larson will be there… =) Mandatory parent and player meeting, Monday Nov 16th Costs continue to increase every year ◦ Tournament fees ◦ Registration fees to USA Volleyball and to North Country Region ◦ Community Education fees ◦ Replacing equipment We do our best to run as lean of a program as we can It’s a huge focus on what we do ◦ Maximize the impact of every $ Costs for 2016-2017 This year, we will be collecting all payments at one time at the mandatory parent meeting on Monday, Nov. 16 Credit card will be accepted this year! ◦ Provides families with flexibility to pay for JO on their own terms ◦ Families will be responsible for the extra 3% fee that the credit card company collects Check (one for the entire amount) and cash still work. Costs for 2016-2017 Fees for 2015-2016 ◦Competitive Teams - $450 ◦10/11 Teams - $300 Costs for 2016-2017 To compare… Minnesota Select 14-1 $4,280 (Maple Grove) Club Velocity 14s (Rogers $850 Monticello 14s $400 Granite City (St. Cloud) $550 Saint Michael JO $1300 Costs in 2015-2016 We are continuing our clothing packages for the 2016-2017 season… ◦ All girls will be required to purchase a jersey and spandex and warm-up top (except for 10/11s) ◦ If you have a jersey and warm-up from last year, you DO NOT have to purchase one this year! ◦ Everyone will need to purchase a pair of spandex ◦ Competition team girls will be required to also purchase a warm-up top ◦ Pants will also be offered in a set ◦ This is the 2nd year of our 2-year cycle for clothing Costs for 2016-2017 Package A – Jersey, Spandex, Warm-up Top $115 Package C – Jersey, Spandex, Warm-up Top, Pants $150 (Open to any player) Approximate cost of other items Spandex: $35 Jersey: $50 Warm Up: $50 Costs for 2016-2017 We know Big Lake JO Volleyball isn’t cheap Fundraising helps us keep costs down AND helps families keep JO affordable We need our Big Lake JO families to help us with concession stand sales for tournaments we host, and to help out with the set up and tear down for these events Fundraising 2016-2017 To help players keep the cost down, we offer fundraising opportunities! ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ Heggie’s Pizza - $5 profit made per pizza Fruit/Meat sales – profit varies per item Butter Braids - $4.50 profit per butter braid Mixed Bags – 50% profit on sales Fundraising 2016-2017 This year, our check deposit is $75 ◦ Once your family fulfills their requirement, they will be handed their check back ◦ Checks are not cashed unless you do not fulfill your volunteer requirements ◦ We will have digital sign-ups for this season! ◦ Tryout Fee: $100 ◦ This fee is to help get us signed up for tournaments early. The tryout fee is applied to your JO player fees. ◦ Fundraising totals will be calculated on Tuesday, November 15th and made available for parents at the meeting on Wednesday. All fundraising profit gets applied directly to your JO player fee. Fundraising 2016-2017 Families with a player who is on a 14s team (8th grade) and younger WILL REQUIRE a parent to be with them. ◦ 2 2-hour shifts per player Families with a player 15s (9th grade) and up will help set up and tear down for the tournaments we host here in Big Lake.
