It`s time to sign up for our 7th annual CMMS Scripps National

It’s time to sign up for our 7th annual CMMS Scripps National Spelling Bee! This event is open to all students. If
you are the winner, you’ll represent Calle Mayor Middle School in the Regional Bee March 12, 2017 and receive a
free one-year subscription to Britannica Online for Kids. The Regional Bee champion will represent Los Angeles
County at the Scripps National Spelling Bee near Washington, D.C.
HOW IT WORKS
This year we are only holding round two the Spelling Bee:
Round Two is an oral competition of the combined word lists for 6 th, 7th, and 8th grades and additional words from the
“2017 Spell It!” List. You will be given all of these words in advance of Round Two.
WORDS TO STUDY
Round Two: The words will come from a combined word list of 6th, 7th, and 8th grades words and the word lists from
Spell-It! These lists will be given to you after you sign up. In the unlikely event that the preselected Spell-It words are
exhausted, additional words not on any word list you’ve been given will be used until a winner is determined.
WHEN
Round Two: Will be held on a Saturday morning, January 21, 2017, in CMMS Cafeteria – beginning promptly at
9:00am. The winner of Round Two will represent Calle Mayor Middle School in the Regional Bee at 2:00pm on
March 12, 2017, at Walter Reed Middle School in North Hollywood. The Regional Bee winner will compete in the
National Bee in May, 2017.
