You know you are doing
something right when your
business celebrates its 50th
anniversary.
"We are very excited about
reaching this milestone," said
Bill and Debra Pook, owners
and operators of Fred G.
Pook Limited, which is situated at 800 Erie Street South
near Harrow.
"We've been very fortunate
to partner with John Deere; it
is a real success story," said
Bill.
Bill said it was his father
and mother, Fred and Ruby,
who founded the business in
November 1958.
While looking for equipment at the Harrow Fair, Fred
was asked by a John Deere
territory manager if he was
interested in becoming a
dealer.
"The rest is history," said
Bill, who started helping his
father with the business when
he was 16 years old.
Bill said an important turning point in the business
came when John Deere introduced lawn and garden tractors in 1967. Since that time
an expanding product line of
lawn and ground care equipment has been the "bread and
butter" for the Pook family
business.
Fred G. Pook carries a
wide variety of equipment,
including
lawnmowers,
chainsaws, grass trimmers,
leaf blowers, hedge trimmers,
snow blowers and more.
Bill said the association
with John Deere, their commitment to the family business, and providing outstanding customer service has
helped them achieve 50 years
of business success.
"You have to look after
your loyal customers," Bill
said. "We have third and
fourth generations who are
purchasing their farming
equipment and lawn care
items from us."
"We would like to thank
all our customers for their
continued support."
Essex Public School News

(grade 7)
The library is now open at
Essex Public School! Two
students from the Writers'
Circle club asked Mr.
Marentette, our vice-principal, some questions about it.
Here is some of the information he gave them.
Students will have access
to our library with their classes and at recess with teacher
supervision. If you're wondering when the computers
are going to be ready, Mr.
Feduk is coming very soon to
install everything that is
needed. Students will be able
to research topics through
books or the internet.
Have any good book ideas
for the library? Well, we're
getting an idea box where
you can place your suggestions. The library has a great
view of the courtyard. Mr.
Marentette said that the
sound isn't much of a distraction on the second floor. Also,
learning often takes place
through speaking. Everyday
we have volunteers in the
library helping to finish setting up. We want to thank
them!

This school is by far the
best because there are two
floors, lockers for every
grade, a courtyard and a Life
Spiral in one of the staircases.
I love being on the second
floor but my favourite thing
is being part of the Student
Council. I have also joined
lots of other clubs (so that I
don't have to go outside for
recess when it's cold!).
I asked some of the other
students what they liked the
best about our new Essex
Public School and this is
what they said:
Olivia (gr. 3): "I love that
we get lockers because it's
different. We used to just
have hooks."
Liam (gr. 1): "I love to run
laps in the inside-out; that's
what my teacher calls the
courtyard!"
Bryanna (gr. 7)” "I like the
library because there's some
really cool carpets in there."
Maddie (gr. 6): "I like have
the Early Years programme
here; the kids are so small and
cute."
Sunny (gr. 5): "I like the
stairwell that has the Life
Spiral in it."
Emily (gr. 8): "I like not
having rotary classes!"
Kevin (gr. 7): "I'd probably
have to say my favourite
thing is that there's a lot more
Smart Boards in this school."
I think that it's easy to see
there are a lot of cool things
in our new school.
