BYLAW REVISIONS DISCUSSION - REGISTRATION IS NOT REQUIRED
After a long hiatus due to other priority PGC Projects, such as the club remodel and US Women’s
Amateur event, 2016 is the appropriate time to update the PGC Bylaws. The Board gave the Rules
Committee the project to address requested changes. Steps undertaken were
the following:
• Addressing some delayed bylaw revision recommendations that have cropped-up over the years.
• Incorporating some cleaned-up language and selective recommendations made by an outside law firm retained by the Club in 2013. The law firm specializes in providing bylaw revision
documents for an extensive list of private golf clubs. This bylaw revision document was
thoroughly reviewed by the Rules Committee and only selective pieces pertinent to the culture of PGC were incorporated into the PGC Bylaws.

GENERAL MANAGER’S REPORT
BY ROGER AGGSON,
GENERAL MANAGER/COO
FROM THE COURSE
Kudos All Around
BY JASON DORN,
COURSE SUPERINTENDENT
As we enter the fall season, I want to express a heartfelt “Thank You!” to our team
and committee members for an excellent summer season at PGC.
“The best it’s ever been” is the consistent feedback we are receiving about the course
and events this year. That is thanks to Jason, Mike and their crew who work hard on the
course to provide amazing playing conditions all year. Tim, Lacy and the Pro Shop staff
have also done a fantastic job with the summer tournaments, golf outings, junior golf
and daily play.
The Clubhouse staff (Karen, Erica, Sheri, Natalie, Chanta, Rachel, Zijad, Sanel,
Merdida, Irma, Jason, and Chris) did a tremendous job balancing numerous projects
as well as their daily workload to help make the PGC experience outstanding. A lot of
what they do isn’t seen by the membership, but they take tremendous pride in their
work.
James and the F&B team have worked hard to make significant improvements in the
service level at the pool, splash, dining room, wedge and member events. The new staff
has come along nicely and we look forward to seeing their continued development in
providing excellent service.
Fall on the
Course
Amazing how quickly time flies. A couple of months
ago, the golf season was beginning; now, with the end
of August, fall is right around the corner. The days
are shorter, and the turf is hanging in there, but after
a summer of mowing, rolling, and heat stress, we are
looking forward to the cooler temperatures that fall
brings.
The weather during this year’s Member Guest was
fantastic compared to prior years when temperatures
The member committees volunteer countless hours to help our Club thrive, and our
team appreciates the opportunity to work closely with them. I believe that the passion
for the Club, and the member experience by the committees and the staff are what
separates PGC from any other club in the area. We are grateful to have such a
committed membership.

August did have a couple of heatwaves, but the course
remained in good health.
The course will be closed for aeration September
Junor will be dredged and is expected to take 2-3
weeks to complete. The dredging will have an impact
on holes 7 and 11. During this time, the 7th green
will have a temporary green cut out in the fairway
for play. Both back tees on number 11 will close
during the project. The plan is to work Monday
through Friday and shut down on weekends with
both the 7th green and 11th tee open for play.
Hope to see all of you out on the course enjoying
the last couple weeks of summer. Remember to fix
ball marks, patch divots and rake bunkers for the
next golfer.

Sonny Hess & Jim Hively
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16
Local blues legend Sonny Hess (guitar and vocals) and Jim
Hively (bass) will bring their rhythm and blues to Portland Golf
club on September 16th. Hess’s career spans decades, during
which she was the first woman nominated for Best Lead Guitar
by the Cascade Blues Association. She is a staple to the Portland music scene, and as Willamette Live reminds us, with good
reason--she can wail.
Neftali Rivera
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21
On September 21st, bid farewell to summer with the nostalgic
guitar riffs and tranquil vocals of Neftali Rivera. Hailing from
Puerto Rico, where he enjoyed a storied career of recording and
performing, Rivera moved to Portland in the early 90s. PGC is
happy to welcome him back to the clubhouse for an evening of
elegant Latin music. GERMAN SPE CIALT Y BEER ■ WINE ■ FOOD

“Whether you love gospel, soul, blues, jazz, or music by any

FORE THE LADIES
ARTICLE BY PATTY CRISPE
It’s not the wedding bells or the church bells
that are putting smiles on moms across the
land, it’s the SCHOOL BELLS, and that
means it is SEPTEMBER.
The Women’s Member Guest, ALL ABOUT
PLAID, was a huge success. Chairs NANCY
GRADER and JAN CASSIDY received
accolades during and after the tournament
for their creativity and attention to detail.
Perfection is their middle name. The overall
low gross winners were: KELLY DOUGLAS
and ATHENA DOUGLAS; the overall low
net winners were: HOLLIE BARTON and
PATSIE DANT.
If you haven’t been a part of the FOBLO,
now is your chance to sign up. The next
play is Tuesday, September 20th.
PATTI WEBER, 9-Hole Chair, heard from
some of the lady golfers that they wanted to
play with both the 9 and 18 Holers to meet
other members in the Club, or because the
schedule works better for them on a given
week. Lo and behold, a couple of weeks
ago, LINDA LARKIN, who typically plays
18 holes, signed up to play with a group of
9 Holers. And guess what, everyone had a
great time. In fact, JULIE COOK and
SANDY TWEEDT are members of both
groups and loving the experience.
At the conclusion of the Women’s Club
Championship, the scores weren’t the only
thing sizzling; so was the weather. The temperature was near 100, but thank goodness
the women kept their “cool.” The winners
were: Championship flight, EMILY
HARNDEN, winner, and LAURIE
WAGNER, runner up. They played three
days of medal competition, and in the
end only one stroke separated the two of
them. They both said these rounds were the
most intense and stressful they had ever
experienced. The next three flights were
all net play, and the results were: Senior
flight, KATHY ELLIS, winner, and PATTY
CRISPE, runner-up; Flight 1, THERESA
FLOTEN, winner; and ELOISE CARSON,
runner-up. Flight 2, JILL NASSER, winner,
and ANN SCHRAY, runner-up.
