Les Landes KS2 Publication Data 2014

Les Landes Primary School
Our school focuses on the achievement of all children. We measure achievement in the same
way as schools across Jersey and the U.K. Pupils’ achievement is measured in two ways: their
progress and their attainment. Progress measures how far the child achieves from their starting
point. Attainment measures how high they achieve. For example, a child with a low starting
point may make far more progress in their learning than a child who finishes the year with
higher attainment. Together, progress and attainment measures tell us how well children
achieve at school.
Our School
Les Landes is an inclusive, non-selective single form entry school with classes from Reception to
Year 6. Our catchment area serves much of the Parish of St Ouen but the easterly boundary is
shared with St Mary. The majority of our pupils transfer to Les Quennevais but every year a
small proportion go on to the private sector, with these numbers varying from year to year. Les
Landes is part of a strong community in St Ouen, and the community aspect of the school is a
strength. We are committed to, and pride ourselves on, a wide range of achievements. These
include sports, outdoor learning and the creative arts. Our core values of Community,
Achievement and Pride reflect our passion for learning and high aspirations for every child.
Attainment
The three year average attainment of pupils at the end of KS2 is above the Jersey and the UK
standard of Level 4. English and Maths are both strengths of the school; the three year average
of Y6 pupils attaining above the expected national standard of Level 5 in both subjects is 47%,
which is above the local and national standard. For the last three years, the percentage
outcomes for those pupils achieving Level 4 or above were greater than the CATS indicators in
English, Maths and Science. In KS1, attainment in Reading has steadily increased over a three
year period. The percentage of pupils attaining the national expected level at the end of Year 2
was above the non-fee paying sector average in 2014 for both English and Maths. Whilst few
in numbers, the pupils with EAL outperformed the local and national averages in 2014. Whilst a
smaller percentage than the average for Jersey schools, pupils with SEN outperformed the local
average in 2014, with attainment in line with the UK average. Girls marginally outperformed
boys in English and Maths in 2014, with almost all pupils attaining the expected national
standard or above.
Progress
In 2014, the percentage of pupils making expected progress in KS2 (2 levels) was 96%. This was
higher than the Jersey average. The percentage of pupils making above expected progress in
KS2 (3 levels) was 48% for English and Maths. The progress of children with EAL in 2014 was
above the all-island average in KS1 and KS2. The progress of children with SEN in 2014 was
above the all-island average in KS1 and KS2. In 2014, the percentage of pupils making expected
progress in KS1 (1 level) was 100% for English, Maths and Science, higher than the island
average.
