IMPROVE LAB EFFICIENCY AND REALIZE
COSTS SAVINGS WITH AN AGILENT NETWORKED
CHROMATOGRAPHY DATA SYTEM (CDS)
OpenLAB Chromatography Data System
Save Time and Lower Total Cost of Ownership
Efficiency in the modern chromatography laboratory depends on
more than achieving optimal instrument performance. A networked
Chromatography Data System (CDS) is central to productivity
and cost efficiency. Networking can significantly reduce the
cost of adding further instruments, simplify the deployment and
administration of assets, enable remote access for acquisition and
processing, and protect the data by providing central storage.

Laboratory Benefits of a Networked Agilent OpenLAB CDS
Simply stated, a networked data system can significantly
reduce the cost of adding further instruments compared
to using workstations. In an OpenLAB CDS ChemStation
networked topography, each Agilent Instrument
Controller (AIC) can accommodate 5–10 instruments
and eliminate the need for individual workstations. As
the number of instruments in the laboratory grows, so
does the potential for savings. Instead of adding a full
workstation, each new instrument added to network only
requires an instrument control license.
The savings are even greater in compliant
environments. Because every workstation in a
regulated environment requires qualification, a
networked system significantly reduces implementation
and on-going costs. In a networked environment only
the AIC (which replaces many workstations) and the
server need qualification. The cost-benefit point is
achieved at approximately 5-6 instruments.
