The students were very excited to visit a classroom and partner read some of their favorite Dr. Seuss books together. The day was a RS huge success! Special thanks to Reading teacher Kayla Murphy for all of her work in organizing this event. Congratulations to Mrs. Travaline and her 4th grade class for winning the Boston Celtics/J.N. Phillips Recycling contest. For their efforts to reduce energy consumption by being sure to unplug appliances not in use, closing doors to conserve heat, and only using lights when necessary, they were invited to watch the Celtics beat the Knicks on Friday, March 4th. Thanks to all of the chaperones and to J. N Phillips and the Boston Celtics for treating us to tickets, bus transportation, tshirts, and some special Jumbotron attention. A great time was had by all! UPDATES FROM SOKOLOWSKI I wanted to share news of a special project the students in Sokolowski 201 worked on recently. After reading a story in The Boston Globe by reporter Tom Farragher about Juan Pu Nolasco, an 8year old boy from Guatemala who was at Shriners Hospital for burn treatment, my 2nd graders decided to take action! They donated their snack money and birthday money and raised over $125 to buy toys, books and other gifts for Juan. They also made cards and wrote letters (as did the students in S101 and B319!). Yesterday, Mrs. Ana Barahona and I went to Shriners to visit Juan and his father and to deliver the gifts and notes. Below, please find a photo of the class with a special message for Juan as well as a picture of Juan himself, surrounded by his presents. We are so glad Juan is in Boston getting treatment and wish him a speedy recovery. UPDATES FROM HOOKS The Hooks School community welcomed "Big Joe" on Thursday, March 3, 2016.
