The GapGun MX+ is accurate and repeatable even in
areas that are traditionally hard to measure.
The GapGun MX+ is incredibly versatile. One system
can be used for dozens of different applications, with its
patented laser cap design the laser can be manipulated
to measure a multitude of features.
Lightweight, portable and self-contained: the GapGun
MX+ provides a complete quality control solution that
can even be used in the most difficult to access areas.

Maximise your accuracy and repeatability
The GapGun MX+ system comes equipped to operate either non-contact
(no standoffs) or contact (with standoffs). Because adding or removing the
standoffs takes only seconds, you can maximise performance by selecting the
best method for each measurement point.
7 Key reasons to choose the GapGun MX+
Measure non-contact
Use GapGun MX+ without standoffs for
maximum accuracy and repeatability.
Always use the GapGun without standoffs (non-contact) l
l
l
Most leading aerospace and automotive
manufacturers use our most fully featured
profile measurement system to take rapid
and accurate measurements in a range of
commercial applications. These include:
Aerospace
l External body panels
l Composite panels
l Doors, hatches and other openings
l Carbon fibre layering
l Turbine blade profiles
l Measurements to jigs and fixtures
l Scratches and dents
l Chamfers, radii and break edge
l Rivet protrusion and countersink
Automotive
l Final assembly / painted vehicles
l Body in white / unpainted vehicles
l Ring gauges and checker blocks
l Dashboards, consoles, plastic trim
l Steering wheels
l Sealant beads
l Panel radius
Other industries
l Drum and brake pad inspection
l Weld profiles
l Power turbines
l Consumer electronics
l White goods
l Bearing run and tool damage
l
Where accuracy and repeatability are critical.
On any surfaces that are soft, plastic, or may move.
Where surface damage is a concern.
For hard to reach, concave, or restricted areas.
Otherwise, use the GapGun with standoffs (contact)
l
l
l
l
Where speed is more important than accuracy
(contact is approximately 15% faster).
For measuring at arms length or on small complex features.
Where an application specific standoff is used.
To train new operators.
Measure contact
Use GapGun MX+ with standoffs for
speed in specific applications.
GapGun MX+’s large colour touch
screen gives a crystal clear display of
measurement instructions, results and
analysis. This eliminates paper work and
allows operators to spend more time
collecting data with less training.
The GapGun menu system guides
operators through even the most complex
tasks. You can also easily customise the
complete menu system to match your
exact requirements and workflow.
The GapGun MX+ comes ready
configured to measure a wide variety
of common applications. You can
create your own infinite variations on
these initial building blocks.
View cross sections of the measurement
area and results analysis onscreen
using standard red/green colouring
conventions and warning sounds to
indicate “go/no go” conditions.

Set up the GapGun either using its built-in teach mode, or via the GapGun checkplan software on the PC.
Thereafter, the GapGun automatically synchronises both checkplans and measurement data in real-time
with your corporate network, PC or laptop.
Compatible with new HiRange measurements heads which dynamically adjust laser
output to allow measurement on multiple surface conditions, GapGun MX+ can
measure anything from carbon fibre to high gloss black paint and chromes.
GapGun MX+ interfaces with your PC by WIFI or
radio communications feeding results into automatic
measurement reports.
Airbus is one of a large number of manufacturers
that have selected the GapGun after running detailed
evaluations of competing technologies and devices.
1 Fast, flexible and easy to use
GapGun MX+ is small, light and ruggedly designed to take measurements up to 10x faster than tradition gauges. As a
completely modular system, different field of view
measurement heads can be interchanged to cover a broad
range of applications.
2 No surface contact
GapGun’s optical sensor technology means it never needs to touches your product so inspection can be carried out to eliminate surface damage and increase repeatabilty
of measurements.
3 Create, customise and share measurement planning
GapGun MX+ connects to SPC to create bespoke Virtual Tools and graphical measurement checkplans for complex applications and shares with multiple GapGuns.
4 Completely portable for operator flexibility
GapGun MX+ can be used autonomously with the new clip on battery pack for up to 6.5 hours. Taking measurements with the same accuracy, reliablity and performance as when tethered, it stores data internally to download at any time using integrated USB port, docking station, ethernet or wireless link.
5Best user interface on the market
Full colour graphical checkplans show operators how and where
to measure. Onscreen compass and colour coding guides
positioning relative to the part, whilst sounds and vibrations
alert operators of in/out tolerance conditions.
6 High resolution and precision measurement capability
GapGun MX+ can be specified with multiple fields of view and
resolution measurement heads to take a wide range of measurements. GapGun RET (Resolution Enhancement Technology) uses over 4000 data points per measurement to give real world repeatability of 10u or maximum feature size of 50mm.
7 Flexible results access and integration
GapGun MX+ can export results easily to Excel, CSV, PFD, SQL, QDAS and other file formats as well as interface with most leading SPC packages, for flexible integration into existing
corporate networks.
