Medbury Sport ~ Term 1 2017 PE Lessons Boys will require their house PE. uniform, swimming togs, towel and goggles for PE lessons throughout Term 1. Please make sure that the boys have their correct black togs. If they are unable to participate because of illness or injury, they will require a note from home. Swimming Sports During PE lessons, swimming entries will be taken for the Swimming Sports. Your son (9 to 12 yrs) will need to choose which event he wishes to compete in. Please read the following information carefully and discuss with your son. Age is at 1st January 2017. Prelims are held prior to the swimming sports. All boys entered in 25m events will race on the day and only the top 8 boys in 50m and 100m events will race on the day. 5 to 8 years old Events: Boys in the 5 to 8 years age group will be assessed and placed in 2 events. The 7 Years and 8 Years Champion qualifiers will be entered in 3 events, which will include the 50m Freestyle and 25m Freestyle and 25m Backstroke. There are also width events. 9 Years and 10 Years Events: 25m Freestyle, 25m Backstroke, 25m Breaststroke, 50m Freestyle, 4 x 25m Medley and 100m Freestyle. All boys must enter at least two events and no more than 5 events. If your son wishes to enter the 9 Years or 10 Years Championship, he must swim in 5 events, which must include the 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle, 4 x 25m Medley and any two of the 25m events. 11 Years and 12 Years Events: 25m Freestyle, 25m Backstroke, 25m Breaststroke, 25m Butterfly, 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle and the 4 x 25m Medley. All boys must enter at least two events and no more than 6 events. If your son wishes to enter the 11 Years or 12 Years Championship, he must swim in 6 events, which must include the 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle, 4 x 25m Medley and any three of the 25m events. Black Swimming Togs for PE Lessons Swimming togs must be purchased from the Uniform Shop. Boys are permitted to wear the following styles only: Triathlon Championships The School Individual Triathlon will take place on Friday 10 February at Lake Crichton for boys in Years 5 to 8, who wish to compete in this optional event. This is for individual entry only. There will be a team Aquathon event for all boys in Years 4 to 8 which will be held at Medbury on Monday 13 February. A seperate email will be sent home with further information regarding these events. Fitness Throughout the term, on Wednesday mornings from 7.40am to 8.10am we will be offering an optional fitness session for boys in Years 4-8. This is a great opportunity for boys to develop their fitness and help them reach some of their goals for swimming sports, sport teams or just to increase their general fitness levels. This will commence on Wednesday 15 February and our main focus for the first 7 weeks will be swimming. Boys will be required to bring their school swimming togs (boys will not be able to get into their classrooms) and goggles. Boys can arrive in their PE uniform, or get changed when they arrive. It is important that the boys have something small to eat and a drink at the completion of the session, before school starts. Medbury Sport ~ Term 1 2017 cont’d ..... Cricket Years 5 - 8: White Medbury long pants, White Medbury Polo Shirt, Sunhat and sports shoes. Touch Rugby Years 7 & 8: Medbury Black Shorts, Medbury White Polo Shirt, and sports shoes. Summer Hockey Years 5 - 8: Medbury Black Shorts, Medbury White Polo Shirt, Medbury Black Winter socks, shin-pads, hockey stick, mouthguard and shoes. Water Polo Years 7 & 8: Black speedo swimming togs for trainings and games. When travelling to and from water polo games boys must wear Medbury Black Shorts, Medbury White Polo Shirt. Tennis Coaching Boys may practise in their PE uniform or school uniform without their tie, blazer and wearing sports shoes for before school tennis coaching. After School Cricket Practice At the end of sport practices, boys may travel home wearing their school blazer over their cricket whites. If they do not have their cricket whites they must get changed back into their full school uniform. Winter Sport - Years 3 - 8 During PE lessons in the first two weeks of Term 1, boys will be asked which Saturday winter sport (Football, Hockey and Rugby) they wish to play for Medbury. Where possible, your son will be placed in an appropriate team based on his age and ability for his chosen sport. Trials will be held when we can field more than two teams in an age group, and also for selecting our 1st teams in each sport. Most teams will train twice a week, during lunchtimes or after school. All teams will compete in the local Saturday morning competitions. Information about each of the sports will be emailed home and published on the school website. Note - Year 3 Football: Year 3 boys wanting to play football will need to join their local football club, as players are involved in inter-house leagues within each individual club, which we are unable to cater for. Basketball An email will be sent home towards the end of Term 1, inviting boys in Years 5 to 8 to register to play basketball during the week. This is an optional extra sporting activity, but does not qualify as a ‘Saturday’ winter sport.
