by Mrs. Patsy Bazile What Would the Lion Do? rp t1 The lion has made its claim to fame by being known as the “King of the Jungle.” It has a mighty roar, a proud and non-fearing strut, and is always in constant search of prey. The lion is well aware of the fear it instills in other beasts of the wild, and it dares not lose face among its own kind! ce Once captured, its prey is doomed, for upon the weak, the lion shows no mercy. It roams the land merely for self-gain. The theory of survival of the fittest justifies the lion’s existence, while characteristics crucial to the lion’s vitality are revealed to man through scientific studies of animal behavior. Ex But what if ? What if the lion suddenly came face to face with Jesus in the jungle! Thinking outside the box, I see that same mighty, fearsome, and ferocious king of the wild stopping dead in its tracks! It wonders in silence, “Is this the presence of a higher power?” Then Jesus would say to it, “Lion, enough! Be still, for I have come to change that which you once called your world.” The lion’s perception of reality would then befall into absolute amazement, for a revelation would confirm that it is now in the in the company of the true “Master of All Things.” And 27 Metaphors of Faith: Words of a Praying Woman at the sound of the voice of Jesus, the lion would yield to the “King of Kings.” Oh, what an astonishing transformation! The lion is no longer one with a mighty roar, but a kitten with a soft, timid purr. It is now unaware of its title, losing face and forgetting concern for only itself. It realizes that its walk is no longer proud and bold; but, weak and uncertain. And internally, the lion then poses several questions: rp t1 “Am I now the prey?” “Why am I so fearful?” ce “Why do I now feel the need for protection?” Ex Although the lion knows the answers to these questions, it still looks up to Jesus for affirmation. Jesus already knows the thoughts of the lion, yet He still allows the lion to approach, pleading, “Teach me Your way, O Lord. I will walk in Your truth. May my heart fear Your name” Psalms 86:11 NLV. Hence, Jesus responds, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.” Now if this is the response of Jesus to the transformed lion, isn’t it imperative that we examine ourselves as Christians, our spiritual walk, and the real messages we convey, whether we be leaders for or followers of Christ?” 28
